Dell SupportAssist runs a built-in hardware diagnostic called ePSA (Enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment). When a component fails, ePSA reports a specific error code. Here are the codes we most commonly encounter, and the repair path for each.
This error means the SupportAssist diagnostic could not read from the hard drive or SSD at the expected speed or address. Common causes: failing HDD (bad sectors), loose SATA cable, or NVMe SSD reaching end-of-life. Fix: we run a full S.M.A.R.T. scan to confirm failure, then replace with a matched SSD (usually NVMe Gen 4 on Intel 12th/13th gen Dell models). Data recovery is attempted before replacing the drive.
SupportAssist cannot detect the battery or the battery reports as not charging. Common causes: battery connector detached from logic board (after a drop), failed battery cell (voltage below detection threshold), or a faulty PSU board that doesn’t pass charging current. Fix: we re-seat the battery connector first (quick fix), then replace the battery if it’s below threshold, or repair the PSU charging circuit if the board is at fault.
The cooling fan is not spinning at the expected RPM, or is not detected at all. On Dell XPS and Latitude business laptops, the fan reports RPM via a Hall-effect sensor to the EC (Embedded Controller). If the fan seizes (dust, bearing failure), RPM drops to 0 and the EC triggers this code. Fix: fan unit replacement + thermal paste re-application on CPU and GPU (both are done together since the machine is already open). ₹1,500–₹3,500 for fan + paste.
This code appears when the display fails to initialise correctly. Common causes: display data cable damage (the ribbon cable from the logic board to the LCD panel, which runs through the hinge and cracks over time with repeated opening/closing), or a failed LCD inverter on older CCFL panels. Fix: we test the cable first (inexpensive swap), then the panel itself. Display cable replacement is ₹800–₹2,000; full panel replacement is ₹3,000–₹18,000 depending on resolution and model.

Alienware m15/m17/x14/x16 and G-Series G3/G5/G7/G15 share a well-known thermal pattern: vapor chamber plus dual or triple fans. After 18–24 months, dust accumulation and dried thermal paste kill GPU performance — you notice frame rates falling even though nothing changed in your game settings.
We strip every heatsink and fan assembly, inspect the vapor chamber (Dell’s flat heat-spreader that moves GPU heat across the chassis), and reapply fresh thermal compound.
