Barrel DC jacks, USB-C ports, Thunderbolt 4, MagSafe pin-side — we diagnose at your doorstep, repair at our Secunderabad workshop with proper soldering and microscope work, deliver back same-day or next morning. ₹1,200 onwards ·
Eight DC jack and port failure patterns we see weekly. The exact symptom narrows the fix.
Hold the cable up / down / sideways for charging. Cracked solder joint under the jack.
Wobbles in the port, falls out easily. Internal contacts worn or jack physically loose on board.
Visible black marks, melted plastic. Arcing from cheap chargers — replace before further damage.
Charging works initially, cuts off when laptop is moved. Joint disconnects under stress.
Bent metal contacts inside. Don’t force — bring it for proper extraction.
Modern USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 port loose, broken pin, debris stuck. BGA-mount replacement.
MacBook MagSafe doesn’t hold properly — pin-side board contacts worn.
Visible spark when plugging in. Internal short or arcing — stop using, replace immediately.
A laptop charging port is a small physical assembly soldered directly to the motherboard. On older / mainstream Windows laptops, it’s a cylindrical barrel jack with a centre pin and outer sleeve, held by 2-4 surface-mount solder pads. On modern ultrabooks and all 2020+ MacBook Air / Pro models, it’s a USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 connector mounted as a fine-pitch surface-mount component — up to 24 contacts on a precise grid. On M1/M2/M3/M4 MacBooks with MagSafe, it’s a MagSafe female-side board with five spring-loaded contacts and embedded magnets.
All three fail at the solder joints, not the connector itself. Every time you plug in a charger at an angle — pulling slightly down on the cable, or sideways — force is transmitted through the port to the solder joints holding it to the motherboard. Multiplied over thousands of insertion cycles across years, those joints develop micro-cracks. The connection still works at certain angles (when the crack is compressed closed) and fails at others (when it opens). This is the textbook signature of “charges only when wiggled.”
The fix is methodical. We disassemble the laptop to expose the motherboard, examine the failed joint under a stereo microscope, and re-flow the original joints if they’re re-usable (₹1,200–₹1,800). If the metal contacts inside the jack itself are bent, burnt, or oxidised — common after months of arcing from a cheap aftermarket charger — we de-solder the old jack and install a new OEM-spec part (₹1,800–₹2,500). Either way, the laptop comes back charging cleanly.
USB-C / Thunderbolt repair is more delicate. The connector has 24 contacts on a fine-pitch grid, and the surrounding circuitry includes the USB-C Power Delivery (PD) controller, signal-integrity components, and (on some models) the Thunderbolt retimer chip. Pulling and replacing a USB-C port requires hot-air BGA rework, microscope work, and post-replacement verification that PD negotiation, USB 3.x data, and DisplayPort alt-mode all work correctly. We do this regularly at our workshop — takes 90–180 minutes per port. Authorised centres typically don’t do USB-C port-only repair; they swap the whole motherboard.
One small habit prevents most jack failures: plug straight in, unplug straight out, and don’t carry the laptop while it’s charging. The jack is rated for tens of thousands of insertion cycles, but only when force is along the cable axis. Side-loading is what kills them. We’ll mention this at handover — a small change in habit saves a re-repair down the line.
Diagnosis at your doorstep. Repair at our workshop where the soldering bench, microscope, and hot-air rework station live. Free pickup and drop.
Confirm jack vs charger via OEM-spec test charger. ₹149 visit charge.
Workshop work needed — we collect the laptop, signed receipt with serial.
Microscope inspection. Joint reflow if reusable; full jack swap if contacts are damaged.
Full charge cycle verified, port stress-tested. Free drop. 30-day warranty.
Final price fixed at diagnosis based on whether the jack can be re-soldered or needs replacement.
All repairs include parts + labour + 30-day warranty. Free pickup & drop across Hyderabad. Authorised centres typically only swap the whole board for the same fault — we do component-level.
What customers ask before booking a charging-port repair in Hyderabad.
A broken DC jack (the charging port) affects the whole power chain — these are the services customers most often combine with a DC jack replacement.
A wobbling DC jack can damage the charger tip over time — we check the adapter too and replace it if the connector has been stressed or shorted.
Months of intermittent charging caused by a faulty DC jack can degrade the battery — we test capacity after jack repair and replace if below threshold.
If the DC jack has shorted, it may have taken power-section components on the motherboard with it — board diagnosis is included in every jack repair.
If the laptop won't start even after the jack is fixed, the power button circuit is the next component we check in the same diagnostic pass.
Power instability from a loose DC jack can cause the GPU (graphics chip) to fault, leaving the screen blank even when the laptop is running.
Voltage spikes from a failing jack sometimes burn out fan motor bearings — we inspect the fan during every DC jack repair at no extra diagnostic charge.

One photo of the port + a quick description (loose? burnt? only at angles?) is enough for us to give you a likely-fix range. ₹149 visit, free pickup, 30-day warranty.
