The tape-path tension arm bearing is worn. Tape throughput drops, the tape jitters on long write sessions and you may hear a faint rhythmic noise from the library. We replace the tension arm bearing and verify with a reference cartridge run.
The picker fingers do not seat fully on cartridge pickup, causing intermittent slot-to-drive move failures. We re-teach the picker arm via the RMU (Remote Management Unit — Tandberg’s web management interface) and verify across a full inventory cycle.
A firmware push interrupted mid-flash leaves the drive at the bootloader prompt — it powers on but never reaches the ready state. Serial firmware recovery with the matching Tandberg image restores function. Turnaround 1–2 working days.
The NEO controller card’s embedded web service has crashed and is not responding to HTTP. We reload the RMU firmware from the serial console. If the controller card itself has failed, we source a replacement through Tandberg / Overland-Tandberg parts distributors.
Leader-pin misalignment or mechanism dust accumulation prevents the cartridge from completing the load cycle. Manual bench recovery with the library opened — never force the eject button when a cartridge is mid-load, as that risks tearing the leader pin.
Tandberg LTO-8 HH fails to negotiate SAS-3 (12 Gb/s) with an LSI 9300-8e HBA (host bus adapter — the SAS card in the backup server) and drops to SAS-2 (6 Gb/s), halving throughput. Root cause: SAS cable quality, connector seating, or drive firmware not matching the HBA firmware revision.
