The Code 39 barcode reader (BCR) is worn or contaminated. The library reports ‘destination element address invalid’ for rear-row slots while front-row slots read correctly. We clean, re-calibrate or replace the BCR assembly.
Picker fingers slip on cartridge release, causing intermittent ‘drop in slot’ errors or failed moves. We re-teach the picker arm position via iLayer, inspect the finger spring tension, and verify across a full inventory scan.
A firmware update pushed via the Scalar Web GUI has caused the slot map to mismatch the physical inventory. The library reports all slots empty even when cartridges are loaded. We rebuild the slot address map via iLayer.
iLayer logs an ASRC code (Quantum’s Atomic Service Request Code — a specific fault identifier) and the library robot parks. We decode the ASRC to the failing FRU (Field Replaceable Unit — the specific component Quantum designates as replaceable), then quote for that part.
Repeated drive-sled swaps have bent or recessed the SAS connector pins on the drive sled backplane, causing link drops under backup load. We repair or replace the sled connector.
The Scalar Web GUI went unresponsive mid-firmware-push and the library will not boot to operational state. We recover via serial console access — do not power-cycle the library repeatedly, as that can corrupt the bootloader partition.
