The palmrest on MSI gaming laptops is the top surface you rest your hands on during gaming. On the Raider and Vector, this is an aluminium CNC piece; on the Katana/Crosshair/Pulse it’s an ABS plastic assembly. Palmrest damage comes from: corrosion of the aluminium from sweat (the acidic pH of hand sweat reacts with bare aluminium over months of gaming), cracking of plastic palmrests from flexing during aggressive keyboard use, and surface wear exposing the base plastic under the keycap area. On MSI models where the touchpad is integrated into the palmrest assembly, a cracked palmrest directly impacts touchpad rigidity and click registration. The base cover (underside of the laptop) takes wear from surface friction and heat cycling. Both the base and palmrest on most MSI gaming models are removable without motherboard disassembly, making them cost-effective repairs.
