Chip-level from ₹4,500 · Full swap ₹14,000–95,000 · ₹149 diagnostic visit
Two routes. Vastly different price tags. Chip-level repair (replacing the one failed IC, capacitor, or controller on the board) costs one-third to one-fifth of a full motherboard swap. This page breaks down exactly what each path costs, which brands and models fall where, and how to know which option applies to your laptop — before you spend a rupee on anything other than the ₹149 diagnostic visit.
When a laptop motherboard stops working, engineers take one of two routes. The first is chip-level repair (also called component-level repair): the technician traces the fault to a specific failed component — a power-section MOSFET, a charging IC (the chip that manages battery charging), an embedded controller (EC) chip, a BGA-mounted GPU, or a cluster of surface-mount capacitors — and replaces only that part. This requires a microscope, a schematic, a BGA rework station, and a stocked drawer of common laptop ICs. The board goes back in unchanged except for the one swapped component.
The second route is a full board swap: the entire motherboard is removed and replaced with an OEM-spec or equivalent refurbished board. No micro-soldering is involved. The new board is fitted, the laptop is tested, and the job is done in a few hours if the part is in stock. The catch is cost — a replacement board costs two to five times more than a single failed IC, and for MacBooks, the gap is even wider.
Chip-level is the right call when: a single IC has failed, the board traces are clean, the laptop is under 6 years old, and the customer wants to preserve existing data without a reinstall. Full swap is the right call when: multiple ICs have failed (common in multi-area liquid damage with no quick response), the PCB is physically burnt or cracked, previous repair attempts have lifted pads or delaminated layers, or BGA cracks are widespread beyond economic re-balling. The ₹149 diagnostic visit determines which path applies to your specific board — not guesswork.
Prices cover parts + labour + 30-day warranty. Final quote issued after ₹149 diagnostic. No Fix, No Fee applies — if we cannot fix it, you pay only the diagnostic visit.
For the full chip-level methodology — how we identify the exact fault, what tools we use, and which IC failures are most common per brand — see our chip-level motherboard repair deep-dive.
These ranges reflect OEM-spec or equivalent-grade replacement boards. Gaming models and premium ultrabooks are higher due to board complexity and part availability. MacBook boards are priced separately due to Apple Silicon integration.
All prices include parts + labour + 30-day workmanship warranty. Fixed written quote before any chargeable work begins.
The most common mistake customers make is assuming a non-functional laptop means a dead motherboard means a board swap. In practice, roughly seven in ten motherboard failures trace to a single component, not the whole board. Here is how to frame the decision before the diagnostic confirms it.
Chip-level is the right call when: the laptop stopped working after a specific event (power surge, charging fault, one liquid spill that was addressed within hours); the symptom is consistent and predictable (always no-power, always no-display, always battery not charging — not random crashing); the laptop is under 6 years old and not physically damaged; and data preservation is important (chip-level leaves your storage drive intact and in place).
Full board swap is the right call when: a previous repair attempt has lifted PCB pads or delaminated layers; there is visible burn damage or carbonised traces on the board; multiple systems have failed simultaneously (power + display + USB, all at once, often from multi-zone liquid damage left overnight); BGA cracks are widespread across multiple chips; or a discontinued model’s board ICs are no longer manufactured, making chip-level sourcing impossible. In these cases we say so clearly and quote a swap, or if no swap board is available, confirm the laptop is beyond economic repair under No Fix, No Fee.
For MacBook M-series owners, chip-level is almost always the preferred route because the entire system — CPU, GPU, unified memory (RAM), and SSD controller — is integrated onto one logic board. A full board swap at ₹45,000–95,000 is an enormous cost on a machine whose out-of-warranty refurb value is often only slightly higher. A charging IC fault on the same board costs ₹8,500–15,000 at chip level. The arithmetic is clear.
We believe customers deserve accurate expectations before committing to a repair, not reassuring guarantees that collapse at the bench. Here are the honest numbers based on fault type.
80–85% success rate. Clear schematic path, well-understood failure mode, widely available replacement IC. The most predictable chip-level repair category.
75–85% success rate. Firmware re-flash succeeds in most cases. Physical chip swap required in ~20% of EC faults; sourcing the exact variant adds a small failure risk.
70–80% success rate. Reflow addresses solder-joint cracking. If the GPU die itself has failed (not just the solder), reflow gives temporary relief but not a permanent fix. We tell you this upfront.
70–80% success rate. Full reball is more durable than reflow but depends on the die condition. Failed on 1st reflow already reduces success probability modestly.
50–65% success rate. The wider the corrosion spread, the higher the uncertainty. Early response (within 60 minutes of spill) dramatically improves outcomes.
100% success rate — if the replacement board is available. For discontinued models, sourcing a board may take 3–5 days or may not be possible if the model is 8+ years old.
The ₹149 visit charge covers a schematic-driven diagnostic session, not a guess. When our engineer visits your home or office (or you walk into our Secunderabad store), the process follows a fixed methodology: the laptop is powered on with a known-good charger to confirm the symptom; power rails are probed with a multimeter to check which voltage domains are present; the BIOS is accessed if the machine boots; and a schematic overlay maps the absent rails to the suspect components. This session alone — not the repair — tells you with high confidence whether the board is chip-level fixable, needs a full swap, or is beyond economic repair.
For chip-level work, the laptop then comes to our workshop at MG Road, Secunderabad, where BGA rework station, hot-air, digital microscope, oscilloscope, and component-level test fixtures are available. This equipment cannot come to your home — but we provide free pickup and drop across all Hyderabad zones so the friction of getting the laptop to us is zero.
If you are outside Hyderabad, courier your laptop to us with a note of symptoms. We diagnose on arrival, WhatsApp you a photo + written quote, and courier it back after repair. Most tier-1 and tier-2 Indian cities can reach Secunderabad in 1–2 courier days each way. See our courier-in repair page for packaging instructions.
Every repair quote is an all-in number — no surprise line items at the end.
Full fault localisation using board schematic. Identifies the specific component, not just the symptom category. Included in the ₹149 visit or workshop intake.
Replacement IC, capacitor, MOSFET, or full board. No separate labour line — the quoted price includes both.
24-hour stress run after chip-level repairs to confirm stability under load before return. Boot loop, thermal, charging cycle all verified.
If the same fault recurs within 30 days, we re-fix it at no charge including return courier. Covers the repair performed, not unrelated subsequent faults.
What customers across India ask before deciding between chip-level and full board swap.
Motherboard faults rarely occur in isolation. These are the repairs most commonly combined with chip-level board work.
Full service page with symptom guide, chip-level process, BGA rework details, and Hyderabad-specific pricing.
Most multi-IC board faults trace to a past liquid spill. Ultrasonic clean and corrosion removal before chip-level repair.
No display with the board powering on usually points to GPU, eDP circuit, or panel IC — all chip-level fixable.
If the board is non-functional but the SSD is intact, we recover files before any repair work begins.
A faulty DC jack that arced before failure often blows the charging IC upstream on the board. Both diagnosed together.
Drop or impact can fracture BGA solder joints. We assess physical damage before quoting any chip-level board work.
