A laptop motherboard is a multi-layer circuit board densely populated with hundreds of individual components — power management ICs (PMICs), charging controllers, embedded controllers (EC chips), voltage regulators, capacitors, MOSFETs, BGA-packaged GPU and chipset dies, USB-C port controllers, BIOS flash chips, and more. When the laptop stops working — won’t power on, won’t charge, shows no display, freezes mid-use — one or more of these components has failed. The authorised service-centre response is almost always the same: replace the entire motherboard, quoted at ₹15,000 to ₹35,000+.
Chip-level repair is the opposite approach. Instead of swapping the whole board, a trained engineer with the right equipment identifies which specific component has failed — a single shorted MOSFET on the main 19V rail, a charging IC that stopped communicating, an EC chip with corrupted firmware after a power surge — and replaces or repairs just that part. The rest of the board stays intact. This is the difference between fixing a burst pipe and rebuilding the whole plumbing system.
Chip-level repair requires a workshop equipped with a BGA rework station (hot-air reflow for ball-grid-array chips), a stereo microscope (for micro-soldering tiny SMD components), a thermal camera (to trace shorted rails by heat signature), board schematics, and an engineer who can read them. This is why most authorised centres don’t offer it — the economics of a swap-and-bill service model don’t justify the tooling and training investment.
Every repair below is component-level — we replace the specific part that failed, not the entire motherboard.
The power management IC (PMIC) regulates every voltage rail on the board. When it shorts or fails, the laptop is completely dead — charger lights up, laptop does nothing. Replacing the PMIC restores power. ₹4,500–8,000.
The charging IC (battery charge controller) manages current flow between the adapter, battery, and board. When it fails, the battery stops charging even with a good adapter. Common after liquid spills or power surges. ₹4,500–8,000.
The EC chip is the laptop’s low-level firmware manager — it controls keyboard, power button, fan, battery communication. EC failure or corrupted firmware causes no-power or frozen-at-boot symptoms. Can be reflashed or replaced. ₹5,500–9,500.
GPU reflow uses a precisely controlled hot-air rework station to re-melt the solder balls connecting the GPU die to the motherboard. Used when the GPU connection has deteriorated due to thermal cycling, causing display artifacts, no display, or random crashes. ₹6,500–12,000.
BGA reball is more thorough than reflow — we remove the BGA chip, strip all old solder balls, apply a fresh stencil-aligned ball grid using new solder, and reattach. Stronger, longer-lasting repair for boards where reflow alone hasn’t held. ₹8,500–18,000.
The BIOS chip (a small flash memory IC) stores the firmware that runs before the OS loads. A failed or corrupted BIOS chip causes post-boot failures, logo loops, or no-display symptoms. We desolder, reprogram, and resolder the chip. ₹2,500–4,500.
USB-C ports carry charging, data, and display signals on the same connector. Broken solder joints or a failed USB-C PD (Power Delivery) controller IC are common causes of intermittent charging or dead ports. Port resolder or IC replacement. ₹3,500–7,500.
Liquid spills corrode multiple components simultaneously. We first ultrasonically clean the board, then identify which ICs have failed under the microscope and replace them individually. Success rate 50–65% — act fast, the first 60 minutes matter. ₹9,500–22,000.
Chip-level diagnosis is schematic-driven, instrument-measured work — not guesswork. The ₹149 visit covers the full diagnostic session.
We load the board schematic and identify every power rail, signal line, and component in the affected circuit. This gives us a map before we touch the board.
A multimeter checks each voltage rail (3.3V, 5V, 19V, etc.) against schematic values. A missing or short-to-ground rail pinpoints which IC or section has failed.
A thermal camera shows hot spots on the board — a shorted component heats up abnormally. This visually identifies the failed part within seconds on complex multi-fault boards.
The stereo microscope reveals cracked solder joints, corroded pads, and lifted capacitor legs invisible to the naked eye. Individual ICs are tested in-circuit for continuity and resistance.
These are ranges — exact quote given after the ₹149 diagnostic visit. No charge if we cannot fix it.
All prices include parts + labour + 30-day workmanship warranty. Fixed quote confirmed in writing before any chargeable work begins. Motherboard repair overview.
We quote success rates before starting — because the right repair starts with honest expectations, not a deposit.
70–85% success rate. High success because the failure mode is predictable — a shorted or open IC with a known schematic footprint.
60–75% success rate. Less reliable when the board has sustained extended high-temperature use that has warped pads. Reball is the stronger option for severe cases.
65–80% success rate. More reliable than reflow for long-term hold, particularly on laptops with heavy thermal cycling history (gaming / workstation use).
50–65% success rate. Depends heavily on time-to-service: boards brought in within 60 minutes of the spill see the highest success. Boards that were powered on after the spill have lower odds.
30–50% success rate. Cracked PCB traces, torn-off pads, and physically shattered BGA chips are the hardest to recover. We assess before committing.
85–95% success rate when the chip is intact and the failure is firmware corruption (not hardware damage). One of the most reliable chip-level interventions.

Courier-in guide →There are four reasons chip-level repair is almost always the right first option when a motherboard fails:
1. Cost: A full motherboard swap for a mid-range laptop costs ₹15,000–35,000. Chip-level repair for the failed IC on the same board costs ₹4,500–12,000. The board itself is identical — only one or two components have actually failed.
2. Data preservation: When we repair your existing board, your storage drive stays on the same board it has always been on. A full board swap in the Intel or Apple Silicon era often means your data is stored on the board itself (soldered NVMe, embedded T2 or M-series NAND) — a board swap can mean data loss. Chip-level repair sidesteps this entirely.
3. Parts availability: For laptops more than four years old, OEM replacement boards are discontinued or only available as grey-market refurbs of unknown provenance. The individual ICs that actually fail — charging controllers, power MOSFETs — are industry-standard parts still manufactured and available. Chip-level repair keeps older laptops alive when board swap is impossible.
4. Environmental: A failed IC replaced is one component in landfill. A whole motherboard swapped is 200+ components, a fiberglass-laminate PCB, and rare-earth metals scrapped unnecessarily. Chip-level repair is the sustainable choice by a significant margin.
When board swap is the right call — major short across multiple critical rails, a BGA chip that can’t be economically re-balled, discontinued parts with no sourcing route — we say so clearly and quote a board swap at market price. About 30% of the boards we receive need a swap. The other 70% don’t, and chip-level saves the difference.
What customers ask before sending us a board for chip-level diagnosis.
Chip-level faults rarely arrive alone. These are the services we most commonly pair with motherboard repair.
Most multi-IC chip-level jobs start as liquid spills. Ultrasonic board cleaning is step one before any component replacement on a wet board.
The full motherboard repair page covers both chip-level and board-swap options, symptoms, pricing, and the Hyderabad-specific service details.
GPU reflow and reball are chip-level repairs — but we first rule out cable, panel, and eDP controller issues before opening the board.
BIOS chip reflash is the lightest chip-level intervention — no soldering required in most cases, just firmware extraction and reprogramming.
If the board is beyond repair but the SSD is intact, we recover files from the storage drive before any board decision is made.
A broken DC jack or damaged USB-C port can blow the upstream charging IC. We fix both in the same session when needed.
