Why Windows 11 26H1 freezes at 75% in India
Short answer: The 75% mark is the component-application phase — Windows is rewriting protected system files and registering new kernel components. On Indian laptops it stalls most often because of a corrupted CBS (Component Based Servicing) store from a previous interrupted update, an antivirus product locking a file mid-write, or a partially downloaded package left over from a power cut. Waiting 60 minutes before acting is the correct first step — forced restarts before that can genuinely corrupt the installation.
How to fix Windows 11 26H1 stuck at 75%
Step 1: Confirm it is actually frozen, not just slow
Before touching the power button, watch the disk activity LED on the laptop chassis — it is usually a small amber or white light near the power button. If it is blinking, the laptop is writing data and you must wait. A truly frozen update shows a static progress bar, a dark disk LED, and no CPU fan spin-up for 20 continuous minutes. Set a timer. Impatience at this stage is the most common cause of genuinely corrupted Windows installations we see in the workshop. If after 60 minutes nothing has moved, the update is frozen.
Step 2: Force-restart and let Windows self-repair
Hold the power button for 10 seconds. On the next boot, Windows will detect the incomplete update and automatically roll back to the previous build. This process can take 15–30 minutes and shows a "Undoing changes made to your computer" screen — do not interrupt it. Once back on your working desktop, go to Settings → Windows Update and check which updates are pending. If 26H1 is still listed, do not retry yet — run Steps 3 and 4 first.
Step 3: Repair the Windows component store with SFC and DISM
Open Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click Start → Terminal (Admin)). Run sfc /scannow and wait for it to complete — this checks and repairs corrupted system files. Then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth — this (the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool) downloads fresh component files from Microsoft's servers to repair the CBS store that 26H1 failed to write into. Together these two commands resolve around 70% of recurring update freezes we see on Indian laptops. Both require a stable internet connection and take 20–45 minutes.
Step 4: The India angle — clear the update cache after a power cut
India-specific context: if your city had a power cut or voltage fluctuation in the days before the 26H1 update, there is a good chance the update package downloaded partially and was corrupted on disk. Windows Update does not always detect this. The fix is to flush the SoftwareDistribution folder — Windows' local cache for update files. Stop the Windows Update service (net stop wuauserv in Admin Terminal), delete the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\, then restart the service (net start wuauserv). Windows will re-download 26H1 fresh, typically 3–5 GB, and the installation should complete cleanly.
