Why Windows 11 26H1 causes a boot loop
Short answer: Windows 11 version 26H1 is a significant feature update that modifies kernel components, storage drivers, and the security stack. During or after installation, if a driver already on the laptop — graphics (GPU driver), storage controller, or audio — conflicts with the new kernel build, Windows fails to complete startup. It attempts automatic repair, fails, reboots, and enters a loop. The second major cause in India is a power interruption mid-install — an update installation interrupted by a power cut or inverter switchover can leave the Windows partition in a state where neither the old nor the new OS can boot cleanly.
How to fix the Windows 11 26H1 boot loop
Step 1: Trigger WinRE without a USB drive
Hold the power button for 10 seconds to force-power off when the laptop gets stuck in the loop. Do this three times in a row. After the third interrupted boot, Windows automatically launches WinRE — the Windows Recovery Environment — showing a blue screen with the message "Preparing Automatic Repair". From here, choose Advanced Options to access the full recovery toolkit. If WinRE does not appear after three attempts, some laptops require pressing F8 or F11 at startup — check your laptop brand's recovery key.
Step 2: Run Startup Repair
In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Repair. This automatically scans the boot configuration data, checks for corrupted system files, and attempts to fix the boot path. For update-interrupted installs, Startup Repair resolves the majority of cases in 10–20 minutes. Let it complete without interruption and ensure the laptop is plugged in. After repair, Windows reboots and either completes the update or restores the previous version.
Step 3: Roll back the 26H1 update if Startup Repair fails
If Startup Repair cannot fix the installation, roll back the update. In WinRE: Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Uninstall Updates → Uninstall Latest Feature Update. Windows removes 26H1 and restores the previous Windows 11 version. All personal files, documents, and most applications are preserved during a feature update rollback.
