This is for owners of Lenovo ThinkPad, IdeaPad, Yoga, Legion and LOQ laptops who have heard of a BIOS security advisory and want a calm, step-by-step way to check their own machine. You will learn three ways to read your BIOS version, how to look up Lenovo's advisory for your model, and how to update safely if Lenovo's page says you should. No special tools are needed.
How do I check my Lenovo BIOS version against an advisory?
Short answer: Read the BIOS version on your laptop using System Information, Lenovo Vantage or the BIOS setup screen. Then open Lenovo's advisory page, find your exact model, and compare the version listed as fixed with the one you have. If yours is the same or newer, no update is needed for that advisory.
Three ways to read your BIOS version
Method 1: System Information (Windows)
- Press the Windows key, type System Information, and press Enter.
- On the System Summary page, find BIOS Version/Date.
- Write it down exactly, including letters and brackets.
Method 2: Lenovo Vantage
Lenovo Vantage is Lenovo's own support app on many of its laptops. Open it, go to Device or System Update, and look for the BIOS entry. The menu names can differ slightly between versions.
Method 3: BIOS setup screen
The BIOS (the small program that starts the laptop before Windows loads) shows its version on its first page. Restart and press F1 or F2 as the Lenovo logo appears. On some models the key is Enter, then F1. Look for BIOS Version on the Main or Information tab, then exit without changing anything.
What Lenovo advisory LEN-220440 covers
Lenovo published the advisory on 16 July 2026. The scores are Lenovo's own. In plain words, Lenovo describes each flaw as needing a local attacker with high privileges, meaning someone who already has deep access to the laptop. It is still worth checking.
How do I find my model on Lenovo's page?
- Open Lenovo's page for LEN-220440.
- Find the list of affected products and look for your model name. The model name is on the base of the laptop or in System Information under System Model.
- Read the BIOS version Lenovo lists as the fix.
- Compare it with the version you wrote down.
Lenovo may revise the page, so what you see today is what counts. If your model is not on the list, the advisory does not apply to it.
How to update the BIOS safely
- Back up your files. Our BIOS update backup checklist shows what to save.
- Connect the charger and make sure the battery has some charge.
- Download the update only from Lenovo's support page for your exact model, or run it through Lenovo Vantage.
- Close other programs and start the update.
Do not switch the laptop off or pull the charger while the BIOS update is running. If your drive is protected with BitLocker (Windows' built-in drive lock), save your recovery key first, as the laptop may ask for it after a BIOS update.
Power cuts and Lenovo BIOS updates
A power cut in the middle of an update is the main danger. Run the update when the supply is steady, not during a storm, and use a UPS (a small battery backup box) if you have one. Laptops with a worn battery are at more risk, because the battery cannot cover a brief mains drop.
What if I do not update?
The CVEs in the table need an attacker who already has high-level access to the laptop, as Lenovo describes them. That lowers the risk for a home laptop, but a BIOS fix is still the correct response where Lenovo lists your model. If you are unsure, ask before you act.
When to get help
- The update stops, the screen stays black, or the laptop restarts repeatedly.
- You cannot find your model on Lenovo's page.
- The laptop asks for a BitLocker key you do not have.
- You are unsure whether a file is meant for your model.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Write the BIOS version and model name on a note before you open any page. Comparing the wrong model is an easy slip, so match the exact name. If the page says your version is already fixed, close it and carry on with your day.
