This post is for anyone in India who is looking at an all-in-one Mac for the home, a study room or a small office and is stuck between buying today and waiting for the next one. You will learn what is known about the iMac right now, what is only expected, and a simple way to decide based on your own situation rather than on rumours.
Should I buy the iMac M4 now or wait for the fall update?
Short answer: The iMac on sale today uses the M4 chip, launched in October 2024. A newer iMac is expected this fall, but Apple has not announced it and it had not shipped as of 2 October 2026. If you need a computer this month, buy the M4. If you can wait a few weeks and have no urgent need, waiting costs you little.
What is known and what is only expected?
Apple has refreshed other desktops recently. The Mac mini now comes with the M6 and M5 Pro chips and the Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra, both on sale from 22 September 2026. The iMac has been left out so far, which is why people expect it to be next. That reasoning is sensible, but it is still a forecast.
How do I decide?
Buy now if
- Your current computer is slow, unsafe to keep using or no longer starts reliably, and work or classes depend on it.
- You mainly do office work, browsing, video calls, photo editing for hobby use or study. An M4 is a recent chip, so ordinary work should not be a problem.
- You found a genuine Apple India offer and want to lock it in.
Wait if
- Your current machine still works and nothing is urgent.
- You plan heavy video or design work and want the latest chip.
- You are happy to stay patient for several weeks and accept that the date may slip.
Do not pay a deposit or booking amount to anyone claiming to hold a new iMac before Apple announces it. If an announcement comes, buy from Apple or an authorised reseller, who can show you the model on the Apple India page.
Before you buy, check these things
- Check memory and storage before you pay, because on Apple silicon Macs they are generally fixed at purchase and cannot be upgraded later. Choose with your next four or five years in mind.
- Your software. Open the maker's website and confirm that your accounting, design or study programs support Apple silicon Macs and the current macOS (macOS 27 was released on 14 September 2026).

Buying a Mac in India: prices, power and humidity
Prices and offers change often here, and Apple's India prices moved up in late June, so compare the Apple India store with the seller's price on the same day. Voltage dips and power cuts also matter for any desktop: use a surge-protected extension or a UPS (a small battery backup) because a surge can damage the power parts inside an all-in-one. In humid coastal cities, keep the machine away from damp walls, and leave the vents behind it free. If you ship a Mac for repair, we accept machines by courier from anywhere in India.
When to get help
Ask for advice if any of these apply.
- You are moving data from an old Mac or Windows PC and are not sure what to copy.
- Your current iMac shows a flickering screen, fan noise or overheating and you want to know if it is worth repairing before you replace it.
- A seller has quoted something that sounds unusual.

Decide by your own deadline, not by rumours. If you can name the date by which you must have a working computer, buy the best M4 you can afford before that date.
