Dynabook Portege keyboards are not spill-resistant despite the thin-and-light positioning — liquid introduced at the keyboard membrane travels directly to the motherboard in the slim chassis. Portege keyboard replacement is more involved than on the Satellite because the keyboard is structurally bonded into the top deck on several models (Z930, R930 series) rather than being a snap-fit insert. Keyboard membrane wear on business-used Portege machines is also significant: the thin chassis design uses a shallower key travel that accelerates switch fatigue on the Space bar and modifier keys. Key legends also fade faster on the Portege’s surface-printed keycaps compared to laser-etched alternatives.
