MSI Raider powers on (fan spins, LEDs come on) but the screen stays black? Three possible causes: backlight inverter / driver fault, failed eDP ribbon cable, or GPU/iGPU not initialising. An MSI laptop that powers on (fans spin, keyboard RGB lights) but shows no display has three primary fault zones. First: the LVDS/eDP cable connecting the motherboard to the screen — MSI’s hinge routing runs the cable through a tight channel that flexes with every lid open/close cycle; on Katana/Crosshair models the cable can wear through the outer sheath within 18–24 months and develop intermittent short circuits. Second: the backlight inverter or backlight LED driver — shine a torch at the screen and if you can see a faint desktop image, the backlight is the fault. Third: the iGPU’s eDP output failing while the dGPU is operational — this presents as HDMI-out working but internal screen blank. Monsoon humidity causes corrosion on the eDP connector pins, creating intermittent display loss that is confused with a failing screen. BIOS update failures can also brick the GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) firmware causing blank POST screen.
We test external HDMI output first to separate GPU fault from screen fault. eDP cable is reseated and inspected for pinhole shorts.
