The Lenovo LOQ’s cooling design is the most important thing to understand about the platform. Lenovo engineered it to hit a price point: instead of the Legion’s vapor chamber (a hollow copper spreader filled with phase-change fluid), the LOQ uses a conventional heat-pipe-and-fin stack. This works well when the thermal interface compounds are fresh. At launch, an LOQ running Baldur’s Gate 3 or Valorant sustains GPU clocks at 80–83°C — within spec.
By 9–12 months of daily gaming, two things happen simultaneously: the thermal paste between the GPU die and heatsink dries out (reducing conductivity by 30–50%), and the heatsink fins accumulate a dust mat. The GPU now hits 91–95°C under the same game. The RTX 4050 / 4060’s power limit triggers — GPU frequency drops from 2,200 MHz to 1,600 MHz mid-session. Frame rates fall 25–35%. The fan also spins to maximum RPM continuously, accelerating bearing wear.
