The Latitude 5000 / 7000 / 9000 series lid is made from MIL-STD-810H certified magnesium or carbon-fibre chassis. The display back cover (also called the A-panel or lid shell) is the outermost structural layer of the screen assembly. On the Latitude, the back cover is most often damaged by three causes: corner drops that crack the aluminium or plastic near the camera bezel, hinge-torque stress that bows the lid in the lower corners when opened past 135°, and bag compression that flexes the lid until the internal Wi-Fi antenna bracket separates from its adhesive mount. Once the lid cracks, the LCD panel behind it is at direct risk from any subsequent pressure. The 13”, 14”, or 15.6” FHD / QHD IPS, optional privacy screen panel on the Latitude is one of the more expensive components on the unit — protecting it with a prompt lid repair is more cost-effective than a full display assembly replacement.
