Eight kilometres from home, one pothole, one expensive repair

What the bench found

Screen damage and panel assessment

The display panel showed a characteristic internal fracture pattern from a corner impact: liquid crystal had bled outward from a single crack point on the lower-right corner, creating a spreading black patch that covered roughly 30% of the display at the time of arrival. IPS panels (In-Plane Switching displays, which offer wider viewing angles and more accurate colours than older TN panels) are more fragile to point impact than TN panels due to the additional liquid crystal layer. Chassis deformation and motherboard flex

The palmrest left rail was bent approximately 3mm inward at the front corner — visible by eye.
