How does coastal salt air corrode a laptop SSD slot over months?
Short answer: Sea air within 2 km of the coast contains sodium chloride (NaCl — common salt) particles suspended in microscopic moisture droplets called sea spray aerosol. When a laptop's cooling fan draws this air in, salt particles deposit on all exposed metal surfaces inside the chassis — including the M.2 SSD slot (the rectangular connector socket that the NVMe SSD card plugs into on the motherboard). What arrived on the bench

Bench findings
Under 40× magnification, the M.2 edge connector contacts on the SSD showed uniform green-white corrosion across all 75 contact positions. Critically, the NAND flash packages (the black chip modules on the SSD card that actually store data) were clean and undamaged. This was entirely a connector surface issue.
