Picture a product designer in a Raidurg apartment complex who carries a Surface or ThinkPad to the office and back every day. The laptop is plugged in at a desk, pushed into a bag at night and opened again on the commute. Nothing looks wrong, so nothing gets checked. This post gives you a short monthly routine in plain steps, shows which checks you can do safely yourself, and tells you when a fault needs a technician. The routine is general advice for a typical user, not a record of one real customer.
What should you check on your laptop every month?
Short answer: Once a month, install pending updates, look at the battery report, clear dust from the vents, inspect the charger cable and test the hinge. Five checks, about fifteen minutes. If any check shows a problem you cannot explain, stop and book an assessment instead of experimenting. Small warnings, such as a warm base or a loose charger, are cheaper to deal with than the failures they lead to.
1. Updates
Open Windows Update and install what is waiting. Updates carry security fixes and also firmware (the small built-in software that runs the hardware, such as the battery and touchpad). On a Surface, firmware arrives through Windows Update; on a ThinkPad, the maker's update tool does the same job. Restart afterwards, and keep the laptop plugged in while updating.
2. Battery health
Windows can write a battery report. Type powercfg /batteryreport in a Command Prompt window and open the file it names. Compare the 'design capacity' (what the battery held when new) with the 'full charge capacity' (what it holds now). A large gap means shorter life away from the socket. Our guide on reading the battery report every month explains the figures in detail.
If the case is bulging, the trackpad is lifting or the screen is pushed out, stop charging and switch the laptop off. A swollen battery is a safety matter, not a software one.
3. Vents and fan
ThinkPads have visible vents on the side or the base. Switch off, unplug and use a soft brush to loosen dust at the grille. Do not blow compressed air hard into the fan, because it can spin the blades too fast. Surface laptops have very slim vents, so only wipe the outside; internal cleaning is a job for a technician. If the fan is loud when you are only reading email, the cooling system may be clogged.
4. Charger and cable
Run your fingers along the cable. Look for kinks near the plug, a frayed sleeve or a connector that wobbles. A Surface Connect or magnetic charger should click in firmly. A loose fit can point to a dirty port or a worn plug. See our note on cleaning a charging port safely before using any tool near the pins.
5. Hinge and lid
Open and close the lid slowly. It should move evenly, with no clicking and no gap forming at the corners. A stiff or uneven hinge can crack the plastic around it if forced. Our hinge tension check shows a safe way to test it.
Who should look at the laptop first: you, your employer or the brand?
If the laptop is in warranty or covered by a brand plan, the brand's service comes first; check the maker's current support page for the terms. If your employer issued the laptop, check your employer's IT or asset policy first. Opening or repairing a managed device without permission can break company rules and may affect data and warranty. Only a personal or out-of-warranty laptop is normally a matter for an independent repair.
Laptop care for Raidurg users
Raidurg sits at the junction of the ORR and the HITEC City border, next to the large IT campuses, with apartment complexes nearby. That mix means laptops often live a two-place life: a desk at work and a table at home, with a bag in between. Keep a padded sleeve between the laptop and your charger, mouse and bottle.
Heat and dust in Hyderabad's summer, monsoon humidity and voltage dips during power cuts are hard on any laptop. A surge protector at home and a dry bag pocket help.
How does Laptop Repair World help in Raidurg?
LRW has one store, at MG Road, Secunderabad, and has served Hyderabad since 2007. We visit Raidurg for doorstep service, and you can also bring the laptop to the store. Gate clearance for a campus or a gated community is confirmed before the visit. Before any work you get a written quotation listing parts, labour, GST and the visit fee. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation needs your approval before further paid work. Each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty.
For Surface laptops, we do not promise a repair in advance: it depends on the model, the fault and the parts, and is confirmed only after diagnosis. Model pages such as Microsoft Surface service for Raidurg and Lenovo ThinkPad service for Raidurg list what we can assess.
If you use several laptops at work or in a small team, our annual service care pack sets up regular checks like the ones above.
When to get help in Raidurg
- The battery drains quickly, or the laptop shuts down at 30 or 40 per cent.
- The case is warm even when you only read email, or the fan is loud all day.
- The charger connects only at one angle, or the charge light flickers.
- The hinge is stiff, clicks, or a gap is opening at the screen edge.
Book through laptop repair in Raidurg. For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us.
A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Set a reminder on the first of every month and do the five checks in the same order. Note the battery capacity each time: a slow drop is the clearest early warning to plan a replacement.
