Separating these layers requires a heated vacuum plate — specialist equipment that general laptop shops do not carry. Understanding Surface display repair
Step 1 — Surface form factors and their repair complexity
The Surface range has three distinct repair profiles. Surface Pro (tablet with kickstand) has the display as the primary access point — the entire front assembly must be removed by heating the adhesive perimeter and slipping between the glass and chassis frame. This requires a hot-air gun, a suction cup, and plastic pry tools. Surface Laptop has the display in a traditional lid, connected to the base via a hinge — the lid assembly is replaced as a unit, similar to MacBook lid replacement. Surface Go follows the Surface Pro design at a smaller scale and is the easiest Surface display job due to lower display complexity. Surface Book with its detachable display is a special case — the display is the top half, and replacement requires separating the fulcrum hinge mechanism, which is notoriously difficult and has limited parts availability in India.

The Surface Pro's kickstand design — while brilliant for desk use — creates a specific vulnerability: when placed upright on a desk and nudged, it falls face-first (unlike a closed laptop that falls edge-first). The flat glass face is the impact point, and the PixelSense glass — though stronger than standard Gorilla Glass — is not indestructible.
