Your MacBook needs a repair, and someone has told you a number. Is that number enough to say yes? A written quote keeps you in control of the cost, because every line can be questioned before work starts. This guide lists the lines a clear MacBook repair quote should show, what Apple says about its own estimate, what Laptop Repair World provides in writing and the warning signs of a vague quote. You will be able to compare any two quotes fairly and pick the route that suits your coverage.
What should a written MacBook quote show?
Someone has quoted you for your MacBook repair. Before you say yes, ask for it in writing and check that it can be read line by line.
Short answer: expect separate lines for parts, labour, tax, any visit or delivery fee, the type of part and the warranty on the work. Apple states that out-of-warranty service starts with an inspection and a personalised estimate. LRW gives a written quotation before work. Choose the route that gives a clear, itemised quote and the coverage you actually hold.
Which lines should you expect to see?
- The fault: what was found, in plain words.
- Parts: each part named, not a single 'repair' line.
- Part type: original, compatible or refurbished.
- Labour: the work charged separately from the parts.
- Tax: GST shown as its own line, or stated as included.
- Visit or delivery fee: shown if any applies.
- Warranty: what covers the repair and the replaced part, and for how long.
- Approval: how a change to the quote is handled.
What does Apple's route say about estimates?
Apple's repair page for Mac laptops in India says that estimated fees are for an out-of-warranty service from Apple and may be subject to tax. It adds that a delivery fee may be added if Apple needs to send your device. It also says Apple needs to inspect the product to provide a personalised estimate.
So with Apple, the first figure you see is an estimate, and the personalised one follows an inspection. The page is the place to check today's wording. If you hold AppleCare+ or a warranty, check your coverage first on Apple's site, because covered repairs follow different terms.
What does an independent repair put in writing?
Laptop Repair World gives a written quotation listing parts, labour, GST and the visit fee before any work. When the MacBook is collected, its condition, serial number and accessories are recorded. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved by you before any further paid work.
Each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty, which is stated on the quotation. The repair itself carries a 30-day warranty, subject to terms, and that workmanship warranty is separate from the part warranty. After repair, the fixed function is shown to you with a short written record. A follow-up call or message comes afterwards. No Fix No Fee covers the repair charge.
How do the two routes compare?
Courier distance and humid weather: what to plan for in India?
If you send a MacBook by courier, a delivery fee and transit time can enter the picture, whichever route you use. In humid coastal cities, damp air and monsoon splashes can add liquid-related faults, which are separate work. Ask who is responsible for the laptop in transit, pack it well and photograph its condition before it leaves your hands.
A typical case
This is an illustration, not a record of a real customer. A MacBook has a cracked screen. One quote is a single total with no breakdown. A second lists the screen, labour, GST and a visit fee as separate lines, names the part type and states the warranty. Even if the totals look close, the second quote is easier to question and compare. A quote that cannot be split into lines cannot be compared fairly.
Which route should you choose?
- Under warranty or AppleCare+: check Apple first.
- Out of coverage: compare Apple's personalised estimate with an independent written quotation, line by line.
- Quote has one total only: ask for it to be itemised.
- Data on the Mac: back up first, as any repair can put your files at risk.

When to get help
- You have a verbal total and no written lines.
- A quote lists only 'repair' with no part names.
- The quote changed after work started and nobody asked you.
- You are unsure whether your MacBook is still in coverage.
Send us your quote or your fault, and compare it with our route comparison for Apple. For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. No Fix No Fee covers the repair charge, and the visit fee is waived only when you approve the repair.
A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Photograph your quote and keep it. When two quotes differ, ask each to show the same lines so you can compare parts with parts and labour with labour. Before any MacBook goes in for service, take a full backup and note the serial number.
