What does MacBook Pro repair actually cost in India?
Short answer: MacBook Pro repairs in India range from ₹4,500 for a straightforward battery swap on an older model to ₹35,000+ for a Retina or Liquid Retina XDR screen on a 14-inch or 16-inch M3/M4 Pro. Apple Authorised Service Centres (AASPs) charge factory-listed rates; specialist independent centres typically offer the same repair at 40–60% less using OEM-grade parts. The correct choice depends entirely on whether your machine is still under warranty or AppleCare+.
MacBook Pro repair cost by component — M1 to M4 era
Screen and display assembly
The Liquid Retina XDR panel (found on 14-inch and 16-inch models from 2021 onwards) is the most expensive MacBook component to replace after the logic board. Apple sells it as a full display assembly — no panel-only option — which drives the cost up. At an AASP, out-of-warranty screen replacement on a 14-inch M3 Pro typically runs ₹28,000–₹35,000. Independent specialist centres that source OEM-grade panels can perform the same job at ₹10,000–₹18,000, with a visible difference in quality only under very close inspection on high-brightness content.
Older Intel models (2019–2021) have more panel options available in the grey market. Screen replacement on a 13-inch Intel MacBook Pro runs ₹8,000–₹14,000 at independent centres. The screen replacement service page covers what to look for in a quality panel replacement across brands.
Battery replacement — and why M-series costs more
MacBook Pro batteries use lithium-polymer (LiPo) cells bonded to the lower case with adhesive strips. On Intel models (pre-2021), the battery is easier to access. On M1, M2, M3, and M4 models, Apple re-engineered the internal layout, and battery access now requires removing the entire logic board assembly on some variants — adding 45–90 minutes of labour.
Typical battery replacement cost: ₹4,500–₹6,500 for 13-inch Intel; ₹5,500–₹9,000 for 14-inch and 16-inch M-series. Apple AASP rates run ₹8,000–₹14,000 for the same job. If your battery health (found in System Information → Power) is below 80%, replacement is usually worth it — you will recover most of the cost in daily usability. Keyboard — butterfly vs Magic Keyboard generations
MacBook Pro models from 2016 to 2019 used the butterfly mechanism (a flat, low-travel key design), which was notorious for key failures. Apple ran a free replacement programme, but it expired for most models. Replacing the full butterfly keyboard assembly today costs ₹7,000–₹14,000 at independent centres because it requires full top-case disassembly. M-series models use the far more reliable Magic Keyboard (scissor mechanism), where individual key replacements cost ₹800–₹2,500 and a full keyboard swap runs ₹5,500–₹9,000.
Logic board — chip-level repair vs Apple board swap
This is where independent specialist service creates the most value. Apple ASC treats logic-board repairs as unit swaps — they replace the entire board, which costs ₹40,000–₹80,000+ depending on model. A skilled chip-level engineer can diagnose and repair most board faults (power IC failure, USB-C controller issues, MOSFET faults, BGA re-flow) at ₹6,000–₹22,000. On M-series boards, where the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, and RAM are all integrated into one SoC (System on a Chip — a single processor package that includes all the main computing components), chip-level repair is the only economically rational path for most out-of-warranty owners. | Repair | Apple AASP (est.) | Independent Specialist |
|---|---|---|
| Screen — 13″ Intel | ₹18,000–₹25,000 | ₹8,000–₹14,000 |
| Screen — 14″ / 16″ M-series | ₹28,000–₹35,000 | ₹12,000–₹22,000 |
| Battery — 13″ Intel | ₹8,000–₹12,000 | ₹4,500–₹6,500 |
| Battery — M-series | ₹10,000–₹14,000 | ₹5,500–₹9,000 |

The India context — import costs, AppleCare+ and repair economics
MacBook prices in India carry a customs duty loading of roughly 20% above MRP in comparable markets. This inflates repair economics — when a laptop costs ₹2,00,000+, a ₹15,000 repair is still rational, whereas in markets where the same machine costs less, owners replace sooner. AppleCare+ (Apple's extended warranty — covers accidental damage with a per-incident fee) changes the equation entirely: screen repair under AppleCare+ costs around ₹7,000 (per-incident fee), vs ₹28,000+ out of warranty. If you own a MacBook Pro under three years old without AppleCare+, buying it now and then filing a claim is worth the arithmetic.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
The most expensive mistake we see MacBook Pro owners make is agreeing to a logic-board swap quote from a centre that does not do chip-level work. The actual failure on 80% of the boards we see is a single power-delivery component — an SN2501 or CD3217 (USB-C power controller chips, measuring about 5mm across) — that costs ₹200 to replace. The board itself is fine. A full board swap for that fault is between ₹40,000 and ₹80,000 for a problem that should cost ₹3,000–₹6,000 in skilled hands. Always ask the service centre: "Can you show me which component failed?" If they cannot, they are not doing chip-level work.
