Your MacBook Pro keyboard was repaired a few weeks ago. Now the same keys have stopped working again. You may feel unsure whether to return to the same place, go to Apple, or try someone new. This post explains what to ask, what Apple states about its own repair guarantee, how an independent repair handles a repeat fault, and a simple order of steps that protects both your laptop and your rights as a customer.
My MacBook Pro keyboard fault came back. Who do I go to first?
Short answer: Go back to whoever did the repair, with the invoice, and ask what was replaced, the part type and the warranty. If the repair was done by Apple, use Apple's guarantee. If you are still not satisfied, ask for a second opinion and bring the paperwork from the first repair.
A repeat fault is stressful, but there are sensible ways to deal with it. The key is to treat it as a question of records, not blame. A keyboard can fail again for several reasons. The first repair may not have found the root cause, a different part of the keyboard assembly may have failed, or liquid or dust may have affected the area earlier. Only a fresh inspection can tell which.
What does Apple state about its repair guarantee?
On its Mac repair page for India, Apple states: it guarantees its service and replacement parts for 90 days or the remaining term of your Apple warranty, whichever is longer, as outlined in the Apple Repair Terms and Conditions. The page speaks of Apple's own service. It does not say whether the guarantee also applies to repairs carried out by other providers, and we will not guess. You can read the wording on Apple's Mac repair page, and read the full repair terms there or ask Apple.
If your keyboard repair was done by Apple, or while you had AppleCare+ or Apple's warranty, begin with that route. For a comparison of the two routes, see our page on the Apple service centre and an independent repair. For anything the page does not state, such as pickup, timing or charges outside warranty, ask Apple or check its page.
What should I ask the first repairer?
- Which part was replaced: the full top case (keyboard and palm rest together), a single key, a keyboard cable, or something else?
- Was the part original, compatible or refurbished?
- What warranty applies to the part, and what warranty applies to the labour?
- Can I have the invoice and any written record of the work?
- What will you check on the same keys now, and will the check be free under the warranty?
A good provider answers these without fuss. If the answers are vague or no invoice exists, write down the date, the keys that fail and a short video of the fault before anyone touches the laptop again.
What does an independent repair do with a repeat fault?
Laptop Repair World can assess a MacBook keyboard fault, whether the earlier repair was ours or someone else's. We record the condition, serial number and accessories when we collect the laptop. We test the keys and the connections, and we give a written quotation listing parts, labour, GST and the visit fee before any work. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved by you before further paid work. Each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty.
Our repairs carry a 30-day warranty, subject to terms. That is a workmanship warranty and is separate from the warranty on a replacement part, which is stated on the quotation. At handover we show you the repaired keys working, give a short written record and follow up after the laptop is returned. The keyboard area gets complimentary cleaning on an eligible keyboard job; internal cleaning and liquid-damage treatment are separate work.
How do the routes compare?
Why does dust and humidity in India matter for a repeat keyboard fault?
In coastal and monsoon cities, humidity can reach the keyboard area and leave a film on the contacts. In dry, dusty cities, fine grit sits under the keys. Either can bring a repaired keyboard back to the same symptom if the cause was not removed. If you eat at the desk, carry the MacBook in a crowded bag or use it near an open window, tell the technician. It helps them look in the right place. If any liquid has touched the laptop, say so; it changes what a safe repair looks like and can affect the logic board.
What if I need a second opinion?
Tell the first provider you are seeking a second opinion, and tell the second provider about the first repair. Share the invoice, the part type and the dates. A second provider cannot judge the earlier work from the invoice alone, but it can say what is wrong now. Read more in our guide to MacBook keyboard replacement. For wider context, see Apple authorised and independent repair.
When to get help
- The same keys fail again within the warranty period.
- More keys fail than before, or the trackpad now acts oddly.
- The first repairer cannot say what was replaced.
- There is a gap near the keyboard, a bulge, or a smell of burning.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
After any repair, test every key at the counter, and keep the invoice in your phone gallery. If a key fails again, record a ten-second video the same day. A dated video and an invoice make the next conversation short, fair and quick for everyone.
