Picture a MacBook Air M2 that has stopped charging properly, or has a cracked screen, and you are not sure how to get it repaired. Should someone collect it, should you carry it to a service point, or should you post it? This post sets out the routes Apple lists, the routes an independent repair offers, and a short checklist so you can choose by your city, your fault and your warranty status, without guessing.
Which route should you choose?
Short answer: Check your warranty or AppleCare+ cover first. If you are covered, Apple's own routes come first. If you are out of cover, choose by convenience: carry-in if a provider is near you, mail-in or pick-up if Apple offers it for your area, or an independent doorstep or courier repair if you want the laptop assessed without travelling. Always get the quotation in writing.
What routes does Apple list for a MacBook Air?
Apple's repair page for Mac laptops in India describes three ways to get service. You can get personal support at any Genius Bar or Apple Authorised Service Provider. Apple can send you a pre-paid postage box so you can send the Mac in for repair on your own schedule, without an appointment. Or you can schedule a pick-up at your home or office, and Apple returns the Mac laptop when the service is done.
The page does not say which of these routes is available in each Indian city. So the honest step is to open Apple's page, as read on 19 October 2026, and check what it offers for your location, since Apple can change it. You can read it at Apple's Mac laptop repair page. For anything the page does not state, such as timelines in your city, ask Apple directly.
What can an independent repair offer instead?
Laptop Repair World, founded in 2007, has one store at MG Road, Secunderabad. It offers doorstep service across Hyderabad and accepts laptops by courier from anywhere in India. The team can assess the fault on a MacBook Air, and work is open Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 8 PM. Before any work you get a written quotation listing parts, labour, GST and the visit fee.
Each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved by you before any further paid work. The repair carries a 30-day warranty, subject to its terms. Condition, serial number and accessories are recorded when the laptop is collected, and the repaired function is shown to you at handover with a short written record.
For a doorstep visit in Hyderabad, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. No Fix No Fee covers the repair charge if the fault is not fixed, while the visit fee is waived only when you approve the repair. You can see the nearest page for your area at Apple laptop service in Hyderabad.
How do the three physical routes compare?
Does a courier repair make sense from a small town?
Distance is a real factor in India. A reader in a town without a nearby provider may find mail-in or courier-in the only practical option, and either one means your laptop travels for some days. Monsoon moisture or a missed courier attempt can add delay, so pack the laptop against knocks and damp.
Do not post a laptop without a backup and a photo record of its condition. Pack it in a firm box with padding around the corners, remove loose accessories you do not need to send, and note the courier tracking number. Ask the repairer, in writing, what will be done on arrival and when you will receive the quotation.
A typical case to picture
This is an illustrative scenario, not a record of a real job. An owner in a smaller city has an out-of-warranty MacBook Air M2 whose screen is cracked. No provider is nearby. The owner reads Apple's page, finds that mail-in is described but cannot tell if it covers the home PIN area, and asks both Apple and an independent repairer for a written estimate. Whichever route gives a clear, itemised quote and a clear return plan is the one that owner would choose.
When does Apple's route make more sense?
- Your MacBook Air is still in warranty, or has AppleCare+ or another cover that applies to the fault.
- A recall or free programme from Apple covers your model and fault. Check Apple's page for your serial number.
If none of these applies, you are free to compare. Our page on Apple service centre vs independent repair sets out the questions to ask, and our earlier post on Apple authorised and independent repair adds more detail.
What should you do before any MacBook leaves your hands?
- Back up with Time Machine or to cloud storage. Our post on backing up before a repair shows how.
- Note the serial number and photograph every side of the laptop.
- Ask the provider whether Find My and Activation Lock need to be turned off first; the steps can differ by macOS version.
- Ask what happens if a second fault is found, and make sure you can say no.
If liquid has entered the machine, switch it off and do not charge it. Liquid can keep causing damage inside the machine, so get it assessed soon.
When to get help
- The MacBook Air will not charge, switch on or show a picture.
- The screen is cracked, or lines appear across the display.
- The battery drains fast or the case is lifting.
- You cannot tell which route Apple offers in your city.
Send a WhatsApp message to 7702503336 with the model, the fault and your city, and we will explain whether a doorstep visit or courier-in suits you. For a doorstep visit in Hyderabad, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. Start at our MacBook Air repair page.
A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Whichever route you pick, ask for the quotation in writing and ask what happens to your data. Ask the provider to say plainly whether the fault is small. Keep your backup until the laptop is back and working.
