Imagine a school librarian in Bhopal, aged 52, who catalogues books, prepares reports in spreadsheets and reads long documents on screen. She wants one laptop for the next five years and cannot decide between a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 and a Yoga 7 2-in-1. This guide is for readers like her: writers, analysts, teachers and students. It compares the two designs in plain words and ends with a short list of what to check in the shop.
Which Lenovo suits my work, the Yoga Slim 7 or the Yoga 7 2-in-1?
Short answer: If most of your day is typing, spreadsheets, reading and video calls, the Yoga Slim 7, a clamshell laptop, is the simpler choice. If you want to write with a pen, mark up documents by hand, or fold the screen back to read like a tablet, the Yoga 7 2-in-1 fits better. Both are in the Yoga range, so look at how you work, not the price tag alone.
What did Lenovo launch in India, and when?
Reports from MySmartPrice, Channel Drive and Croma said that Lenovo launched the Yoga Slim 7, the Yoga 7 2-in-1 and the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 in India in April 2026, on sale from 7 April. The processors named were Intel Core Ultra Series 3, AMD Ryzen AI 400 and Snapdragon X2. For the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 (a different model from the two Yogas below), the reports mention a 360-degree hinge, Wi-Fi 7 and a 60Wh battery (Wh means watt-hours, a measure of battery size).
That was the April 2026 launch. The price you pay depends on the chip, memory, storage, seller and offers on the day, so read current prices and the processor options of each model on Lenovo's India store. Weight and battery size also differ by model and configuration; read them on the spec page of the exact model, not from a general article.
Clamshell or 2-in-1: how do they compare?
A convertible also adds a touch layer on the screen and a more complex hinge. Whether that is worth it depends on how often you will use it. Our guide to the best 2-in-1 laptops for art students talks about hinge and pen use in more detail.
Which work suits which design?
Writers and report preparers
If you type for hours, a clamshell is enough. A 2-in-1 helps if you edit by hand on printouts or sign documents on screen.
Analysts and accountants
Spreadsheets reward a good keyboard, a bright screen and enough memory. Tablet mode matters little. Check the screen size and keyboard feel in the shop.
Teachers, librarians and students
For classroom notes, pen and touch can be useful. For cataloguing and records, the typing experience matters most. Think about whether you will carry the laptop in a bag every day, because weight adds up.
Heat, dust and the 360-degree hinge
Indian summers are hot, and dust gets into vents in many cities. A laptop that runs hot slows down, so keep vents clear and avoid using it on a bed or sofa. For a folding 2-in-1, open and fold the screen with both hands near the middle, never by pushing one corner. Do not force the screen past its stop. A cracked hinge cover or a loose screen is easier to prevent than to repair. Our Lenovo hinge repair page explains what happens when a hinge wears.
What should I check in the shop?
- Ask which chip, memory and storage the exact box contains. Ask whether memory and storage can be upgraded later, or whether they are soldered. The service manual or the spec page will say, and some thin laptops use soldered memory.
- Open and fold the hinge several times. It should move smoothly and hold its position.
- Look at the screen for dead pixels and uneven brightness. Ask about the pen, whether it is included, and which pen works with your model.
- Check the charger, the ports you need (HDMI, USB-A, USB-C) and the warranty card.
- Do not pay extra for a Snapdragon, Intel or AMD label before checking that your software runs on it. Ask the seller about the programs you use every day.
When to get help
- The hinge clicks, feels loose or is hard to move.
- The screen flickers when you fold it.
- The laptop is hot or the battery drains fast.
- The touch or pen stops responding.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Buy for the work you do most days, not the feature you might use twice. A simple clamshell with a good keyboard suits typing-heavy office work. Pick a 2-in-1 only if you will fold it often, and then treat the hinge gently. Message us on WhatsApp at 7702503336 if you want a second opinion before you buy.
