Long days of video calls, a dozen browser tabs and a charger plugged in from morning to evening: a laptop at a HITEC City desk works hard. When the base turns too hot to touch and the fan roars, it is easy to panic. This post gives you a short set of safe checks to run first, shows what points to a real fault, and explains what details to share if you book an assessment at your office building.
Why does my laptop get so hot during the workday?
Short answer: Heat comes from work and from poor airflow. A laptop that is blocked, dusty or busy will run hot. First check the surface and vents, then the load on the processor, then the fan sound. If it is still hot with nothing heavy running, a technician should look at the fan and cooling parts.
Step 1: Check the surface and the vents
Laptops draw cool air in and push hot air out through vents on the base or the sides. Anything soft, such as a cushion, a bag or a folder, blocks them.
- Put the laptop on a hard, flat desk.
- Look for a layer of dust or lint at the vent openings.
- Raise the back slightly with a stand if you use one.
- Keep the charger and cables clear of the vent.
Our guide to fixing laptop overheating without a service visit covers more of these safe checks.
Step 2: See what is keeping the processor busy
On Windows, press Ctrl, Shift and Esc to open Task Manager; on a Mac, open Activity Monitor from Utilities. Sort by processor use. A video call plus screen sharing is heavy on its own. Add many browser tabs and a cloud sync tool, and the fan has to work all day. Close what you do not need.
Also check the power plan or mode (the name and place differ by model and version). A 'best performance' mode makes more heat than a balanced one.
Step 3: Listen to the fan
The fan tells a story.
- Loud and constant, even at idle: often dust, a stuck background task or old thermal paste.
- Grinding or rattling: the fan itself may be failing.
- No sound but very hot: the fan may have stopped.
Read our note on the cooling fan blowout technique before trying any air blowing yourself. Compressed air can spin a fan too fast and harm it. If in doubt, leave it to a technician.
HITEC City: all-day use in an office tower
HITEC City is the densest IT zone in the city, so many laptops spend their whole day at a desk, on a charger, in calls. Addresses around Cyber Towers or Mindspace need the exact building, the reception instructions and a contact, because a visit to a tower cannot start without them. A landmark name alone is not enough, and mentioning a building does not mean we work with the company inside it.
When you contact us, say whether the laptop is personal or issued by your employer. A company laptop needs your employer's IT or asset policy checked first, and some offices do not allow outside repair at all. Our HITEC City laptop repair page explains the details we ask for. We also remind customers not to send passwords in a booking message.
What the checks usually tell you
A laptop that shuts down on its own from heat should be checked soon. Repeated overheating can harm the battery and the board.
How Laptop Repair World helps in HITEC City
We serve HITEC City with doorstep assessment where the building and your organisation permit it, and our only store is on MG Road, Secunderabad if the laptop needs bench work. When a laptop is collected, we record its condition, serial number and accessories. A written quotation listing parts, labour, GST and the visit fee comes before any work, and a revised quotation is approved before any extra paid work if another fault turns up. Cleaning of the accessible area comes with eligible repairs, while internal cleaning and thermal service are separate work. Parts are named as original, compatible or refurbished, each with its own warranty. After the repair we show the result in a handover test, with a short written record, and follow up after return. A 30-day repair warranty applies, subject to its terms, and No Fix No Fee applies.
For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us.
When to get help in HITEC City
- The laptop is hot and the fan stays loud with nothing heavy running.
- It slows down badly or freezes after an hour or so.
- It shuts down by itself.
- The fan grinds, rattles or makes no sound at all.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Once every few weeks, shut the laptop down and look at the vents with a torch. If you can see lint, the fan is already working harder than it should. Note when the heat began and what you were doing, then share that with your booking.
