What are the most common HP Pavilion problems in India?
Short answer: HP Pavilion laptops in India most commonly develop battery swelling (especially after year 2–3), hinge cracks near the lid corners, intermittent screen flicker on the Pavilion 14 and 15 series, and overheating during summer months. All four are repairable without replacing the motherboard, and most fixes cost between ₹900 and ₹6,500 depending on severity.
The four Pavilion issues — what causes them and what to do
Issue 1: Battery swelling
A swollen battery shows up as a bottom panel that bows outward, a trackpad that feels raised, or a lid that no longer closes flush. In India, ambient temperatures of 38–42°C during summer add sustained stress to lithium-ion cells already warm from normal use. HP Pavilion models from the 14-dv, 15-eg, and 15-fd series have a compact bottom-vent layout that limits airflow to the battery bay, making this worse than on other designs.
Stop using a swollen battery immediately — expanded cells can rupture under pressure. Replacement costs ₹1,200–₹3,500 depending on the Pavilion series and cell capacity. Read more about what makes laptop batteries drain faster in India.
Issue 2: Hinge crack
When the lid is opened from one corner, all the torque goes into one plastic bracket instead of being shared across both. Over 12–18 months this fatigues the plastic, the bracket cracks, and the other side follows quickly. Left unrepaired, the cracked plastic eventually damages the display cable running through the hinge — turning a ₹900–₹2,500 hinge job into a ₹4,000–₹7,000 combined repair. Our broken laptop hinge repair guide has the full breakdown. Cost: ₹900–₹2,500 bracket only; ₹2,000–₹4,000 if the lid shell also needs replacement.
Issue 3: Screen flicker
Screen flicker on the HP Pavilion 14 and 15 series almost always comes from one of two sources: a loose or partially damaged LVDS or eDP display cable (the ribbon cable that carries the video signal from the motherboard to the screen), or a failing display inverter on older models with CCFL backlights.
The easiest way to tell them apart is to move the lid slowly while the flickering is happening. If the flicker changes or stops at a certain angle, the cable is the problem — it is being pinched or has a hairline break at the hinge fold. If the flicker happens at all angles and gets worse in cold conditions, a panel or inverter issue is more likely. On the Pavilion 15-fd and 15-eg running Intel 12th/13th Gen processors with IPS panels, the cable is the culprit in about 80% of cases we see. Cable replacement: ₹500–₹1,500. Full panel replacement: ₹3,500–₹6,500.
Issue 4: Overheating — the India summer factor
HP Pavilion laptops use a single heat pipe and single fan. When ambient temperatures hit 38–42°C across Indian cities in summer, the cooling system loses significant capacity because there is less temperature differential to work with. The compounding factor is thermal paste (the heat-conducting compound between the CPU and its metal heatsink) — it dries and cracks over 18–24 months in high-heat conditions, causing the processor to trigger thermal throttling (automatic speed reduction to avoid damage) and random shutdowns.
The fix is a fan and heatsink clean with fresh thermal paste. Cost: ₹600–₹1,500 for a general service. Also see: what to do when your laptop is overheating.
When to call a repair service — and what it costs
When DIY ends
Stop and call a technician if: the battery is visibly swollen, the hinge crack has reached the display cable channel, screen flicker has progressed to a complete blackout at certain angles, or the laptop shuts down under any load. These four states carry risk of further damage if the machine keeps running.
Typical India repair cost range for HP Pavilion
Battery replacement: ₹1,200–₹3,500. Hinge repair (bracket only): ₹900–₹2,500. Hinge repair with lid shell: ₹2,000–₹4,000. Screen cable: ₹500–₹1,500. Screen panel replacement: ₹3,500–₹6,500. Thermal paste + fan clean: ₹600–₹1,500. Visit charge if you bring it to us or we come to you: ₹149 — applied toward the repair if you proceed.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
The single biggest mistake we see Pavilion owners make is ignoring a slight hinge wobble. It feels minor, but an unrepaired hinge crack will stress the display cable over weeks. By the time the screen starts flickering, the hinge and the cable both need work. Catch the hinge early and it is a ₹900 fix. Miss it and the same problem becomes ₹4,000–₹5,000. The laptop has a good chassis overall — it just needs these four things watched.
