You are an engineering student, around 20, and you are thinking about a gaming laptop that can also run your CAD, coding and simulation work. This guide is for you, or for the parent who is paying. It lists what HP has stated about the HyperX OMEN 15, says plainly what HP has not stated, and gives a simple routine to keep a hard-working laptop cool and healthy through college.
What is the HP HyperX OMEN 15, and what should an owner know first?
Short answer: It is a 15.3-inch gaming laptop that HP launched in India on 27 January 2026 at ₹1,49,999. It is the first HP laptop to carry the HyperX name. It uses an Intel Core i7-14650HX chip and an Nvidia RTX 5060 graphics chip. Gaming laptops produce a lot of heat, so regular dust cleaning and sensible charging habits matter most.
What has HP stated about it?
Hz is how many times the screen redraws each second; 180 Hz looks smoother in fast games. IPS is a screen type with good colours from wide angles. A shop price today can differ from the launch price, so confirm it before you pay.
HP's launch details do not list the memory size, the storage size, the battery size or the charger rating. Ask the seller to write the exact configuration on the invoice. Whether the memory can be upgraded is also not stated; look for it in the service manual, or ask a technician to check before you buy.
How do I keep a gaming laptop cool?
Give it air
The fans pull air in from the bottom and push it out of the back or sides. Use the laptop on a desk, not on a bed, a sofa or your lap. A raised stand or cooling pad helps because it lets the bottom vents breathe.
Clear the dust on a schedule
Dust packs between the fan blades and the metal fins (the thin metal comb that carries heat away). Once the fins clog, the chip heats up and the fans run loud. Our guide on a dust-clogged laptop cooling bench case shows how this builds up slowly. Do not blow compressed air into a spinning fan; it can spin the fan too fast and damage the bearing. Cleaning the inside is a job for a technician, who will also check the thermal paste (the grey paste that passes heat from the chip to the cooler).
Watch the symptoms
- The fans are loud even when you only browse.
- Games drop in smoothness after ten minutes.
- The keyboard area is too hot to rest your palms on.
- The laptop shuts off suddenly during heavy work.
Any one of these is a sign to book a cleaning. Our HP overheating guide explains the checks in plain steps, and our HP OMEN performance notes cover older OMEN models.
How should I use the battery and charger?
A gaming laptop draws far more power than a thin office laptop, so it is built to play games while plugged in. On battery, expect the speed to be lower. Use only the original HP charger or one with the same rating. A cheap charger with a lower rating can make the laptop charge slowly or restart under load. If you are on the charger most of the day, our battery deep-discharge guide explains how to avoid draining it to zero, and the battery Wh explainer helps you compare battery sizes once HP or the seller gives you the figure.
Hostel heat, dust and power cuts
Summer heat in a hostel room, dust from the road and the humid monsoon months all push a gaming laptop harder than a cool office would. Keep the room as cool as you can and avoid leaving the laptop in a hot bag or car. Voltage dips and power cuts can happen, so plug it into a surge-protected socket, and shut down properly during a long cut instead of letting the battery run flat. If you move to a college in another city, find the nearest service centre before you need one, because courier time adds days to any repair.
When to get help
- The laptop shuts off during games or heavy work.
- The fans are loud all the time or have stopped spinning.
- The screen flickers, shows lines, or the hinge feels loose.
- It will not charge, or the charger gets very hot.

We also accept laptops by courier from anywhere in India, with No Fix No Fee and a 30-day warranty on repairs.
A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Set a reminder for every six months to check the vents with a torch. If you see a grey felt of dust, book a cleaning before the next exam season rather than after the laptop starts shutting down. Also keep your project files in two places, such as the laptop and a pen drive, so a hardware fault never costs you a semester of work.
