Picture a school teacher in Miyapur, 41, whose HP Envy x360 has been with a repairer for what feels like forever. Lessons are planned on it, marks are stored on it, and no one can give a date. Should she keep waiting, or ask someone else to look? The story below is a typical scenario, not a record of a real customer. It shows what to ask HP, what a second opinion can and cannot do, and how to decide.
Should you keep waiting for the repair or ask for a second opinion?
A teacher hands over an Envy x360 with a screen that flickers and a keyboard that sometimes stops responding. An estimate takes a long time to come, and then the part is described as 'being arranged'. Weeks pass.
Short answer: keep waiting if HP has given you a clear date, or if a warranty or Care Pack covers the repair. If no date has been given after you have asked politely and in writing, a second opinion is reasonable. It costs little to ask what the fault is, whether the part is on hand and how long the job should take. Just protect any cover you hold first.
What does HP state about timing?
On the pages checked in October 2026, HP's India support site does not publish a repair turnaround for the consumer repair route. The only timing HP gives is the next business day onsite response on Care Pack plans, which are extended service plans sold with some laptops. Not every laptop has one, and an onsite visit is not the same as a finished repair. The pages also do not describe paid repair outside warranty, so ask HP or check HP's current support page for its options.
That silence is not a fault; it simply means HP's pages cannot tell you how long your case should take. Only the person handling your job can. So ask for three things in writing: the fault found, the part needed, and the date the part is expected.
What can an independent repair offer?
Laptop Repair World can assess your Envy x360 fault, whether it is the screen, the keyboard, the hinge, the charging circuit or the board. Same-day completion is possible only for eligible jobs, when the part is on hand and a technician is free. Otherwise the quotation names the part type and its warranty, so you can decide. Our quotation lists parts, labour, GST and the visit fee, each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished with its own warranty, and a revised quotation is approved before any further paid work if testing finds another fault. See our HP Envy repair page for the faults we handle.
Because the Envy x360 is a convertible laptop with a touch screen and a 360-degree hinge, a second opinion is also worth having where the fault could involve the hinge or the display cable. Do not let anyone force a bent hinge or press on a flickering screen, as this can crack the panel.
How do you compare waiting with a second opinion?
Why do delays hurt more with heat, dust and the monsoon?
A laptop that sits waiting is not the only risk. In India, a laptop in daily use often runs hot, collects dust in the fan and meets monsoon humidity. If you bring the Envy home while it waits, store it in a dry bag with a silica packet and never leave it charging on a bed. Also remember the data: whichever route you pick, back up your files first if the laptop still starts.
When is HP the better route and when is a second opinion better?
- Keep waiting: HP gave a firm date, your laptop is in warranty, or a Care Pack covers the visit.
- Ask for a second opinion: no date has come after a written request, the laptop is needed for work or exams, or you suspect a simpler fault than the one described.
- Check first: if the laptop is under warranty or a plan, check HP's terms and ask HP before another repairer opens it.
A practical order helps. First write to HP asking for the fault, the part and a date. Second, give them a few working days to respond. Third, if you still hear nothing, book a second opinion on a different day so you can compare. If your laptop was collected from home, note when, and keep any job reference.
When to get help
- No date has been given after you asked in writing.
- The fault described does not match what you see on the screen.
- You need the laptop back for work, school or exams.
- You are not sure whether your plan covers the repair.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team
When a repair is slow, ask three short questions in writing: what is the fault, what part is needed, and on what date will it arrive. A clear reply tells you to wait. A vague reply tells you to compare. Either way, take photographs of the laptop and note its serial number before it leaves your hands.
