You run a tax and accounts practice, and the laptop holds client returns, bank statements and your working papers. A new laptop is a business decision, not a gadget. This guide covers HP's EliteBook launch from May 2026, what HP has stated and left out, and a plain upkeep plan for a laptop you cannot afford to lose in the busy filing weeks.
What should a business owner know about the new HP EliteBooks?
Short answer: HP launched four EliteBook 14-inch models in India around 13 May 2026: three with Intel Core Ultra chips (Ultra G1i, X G1i and the X G1i Flip) and one with an AMD Ryzen chip (X G1a). HP states a built-in AI chip part, the NPU, of up to 48 TOPS on the Intel models and up to 55 TOPS on the AMD model. Prices were not stated. For accounts and client work, backup and security habits matter more than TOPS.
What has HP stated about each model?
TOPS measures how many AI calculations per second the NPU can do; bigger is faster at AI tasks only. HP lists HP Wolf Security for the Intel models, which is HP's name for its security features and software. HP has not stated prices, memory, storage, battery size or whether parts can be upgraded. Ask the seller for these in writing, and remember that a Flip model also has a hinge that bends the screen back, which is one more moving part to look after.
Do I need the NPU?
Probably not for tax and accounts software. An NPU helps with AI features such as background blur on calls, transcribing meetings or summarising documents. Accounting packages, spreadsheets and PDFs run on the main chip. If you do not use AI tools, compare the models on screen, weight, keyboard, ports and the service you will get, rather than on the NPU number. Do not pay a higher price for TOPS you will never use.
How do I protect client data on it?
Save the BitLocker key
BitLocker (Windows' built-in drive lock) may turn on by itself. If the laptop's board is repaired or a setting changes, Windows can ask for a recovery key. Save that key in your Microsoft account or on paper kept away from the laptop. Our guide on BitLocker without the key explains why this matters. Do not give a technician or buyer your laptop password or recovery key unless you trust them and the work needs it.
Back up twice
Keep one copy on an external drive and one in the cloud. Our cloud and external backup guide compares both. Test by opening a file from the backup once a month. A backup you have never opened is not yet a backup.
Keep Windows and the BIOS updated
BIOS (the small program that starts the laptop before Windows loads) updates arrive from HP as routine fixes. Install them from HP's own support page and let Windows Update run. Do not start either one in the middle of a filing deadline week or on a low battery.
Filing-season workload, heat and power cuts
Filing seasons mean long hours and a laptop that stays on a desk for days. Dust, heat from a closed office and voltage dips all show up in those weeks. Use a surge-protected socket or a small UPS (a battery box that keeps power steady during a cut), and shut the laptop down properly during a power cut. If your office is far from a service centre, courier repair adds days, so decide your backup laptop plan before a deadline arrives, not during it. When to get help
- Windows asks for a BitLocker recovery key you cannot find.
- The laptop will not start, or restarts again and again.
- A hinge, port or keyboard feels loose or stops responding.
- Files are missing or the drive makes odd sounds.
