Can Linux Mint revive an aging laptop that struggles with Windows?

How to migrate from Windows to Linux Mint
Step 1: Back up everything first
Connect an external drive (USB or portable HDD) and copy your Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, and any important project folders. Also save browser bookmarks (export from Chrome or Firefox as an HTML file) and note down any software serial numbers or licence keys you will need to reinstall. Do not skip this step — if you accidentally choose Erase disk during installation instead of the dual-boot option, everything on the laptop will be permanently deleted. Step 2: Create a Linux Mint bootable USB
On any working Windows PC or Mac, download the Linux Mint ISO from linuxmint.com — choose Cinnamon edition for a familiar desktop. Download balenaEtcher (etcher.balena.io) or Rufus (Windows-only). Insert a 4 GB or larger USB drive. Open Etcher, select the Linux Mint ISO file, select the USB drive, and click Flash. The process takes 5–10 minutes. The USB is now a live installer — you can boot from it without installing anything, test Linux Mint live, and decide whether to proceed.
Step 3: Boot from USB and install Linux Mint
Restart the aging laptop, press the boot menu key (F12 for Dell, F9 for HP, F12 for Lenovo) and select the USB drive. Linux Mint loads a live desktop. Test Wi-Fi, audio, and the touchpad. If everything works in the live session, double-click Install Linux Mint on the desktop.
