Picture a physiotherapist in Jubilee Hills, 34 (a typical scenario, not a real customer), who runs patient records and video consultations on a Dell G15. The fan roars, the base burns her lap and the laptop sometimes restarts mid-call. A cleaning, a cooling repair and a bigger fault would each cost something different. This guide shows what moves an overheating quote, how to compare two quotes like for like and when Dell's own warranty or plan should come first, so you can decide with a clear head.
What decides the cost of fixing an overheating G15?
Your Dell G15 is running hot and loud. Before you approve anything, remember that the same symptom can come from three very different causes, and each costs differently.
Short answer: if the G15 is in warranty or a Dell plan covers it, use Dell first. If it is out of coverage, get a diagnosis with a temperature check and a written quote. Cleaning is the lightest fix, a fan or thermal repair is the middle one, and a bigger fault is the heaviest. Approve only the line items that match the cause.
Why does a G15 overheat?
A gaming laptop packs a powerful processor and graphics chip in a thin body. Heat is carried away by a heatsink (a metal block with thin fins) and pushed out by a fan. Three things commonly go wrong. Dust blocks the fins. The thermal paste (the paste between a chip and the heatsink) dries out and conducts heat less well. Or the fan wears and spins slowly or noisily.
A bigger fault, such as a failing charging circuit or a battery problem, can also create heat. That is why a test comes before a quote.
What moves the quote?
- Diagnosis: whether the cause is dust, paste, fan or something else.
- Assembly versus component: a whole cooling assembly costs differently from a single fan.
- Part type: original, compatible or refurbished, each with its own warranty.
- Labour: opening the laptop and refitting takes time.
- GST and visit fee: should be listed as separate lines.
The exact quote comes after diagnosis and is shared in writing for your approval. We do not give a price before the laptop is checked.
What can LRW do for an overheating G15?
Laptop Repair World can inspect the accessible area, run a temperature check and quote the work in writing. When the laptop is collected, its condition, serial number and accessories are recorded. Complimentary cleaning of the accessible area comes with eligible repairs. Internal cleaning and thermal service are separate work and are quoted as such.
The written quotation lists parts, labour, GST and the visit fee before any work, and each part is named original, compatible or refurbished with its own warranty. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved before any more paid work. Eligible jobs can finish the same day when the part is on hand and a technician is free. The repair carries a 30-day warranty, subject to terms.
How do you compare two quotes like for like?
For paid repair outside warranty, check Dell's support page and ask Dell for its current terms. This post does not describe prices or terms for Dell's own service.
Summer heat and dust in Hyderabad
Hyderabad summers push room temperatures high, and many homes have no air conditioning. Dust from roads and construction settles in the fins quickly. A G15 used on a bed or a cushion blocks the air intake underneath. A hard stand, a cleaner room and regular vent cleaning give the fan a fair chance. Do not blow compressed air hard into the fan; it can spin the blades too fast and damage the bearing.
A typical case
A G15 runs hot during long video calls. The technician reads the temperatures at rest and under load, finds dust in the fins and a fan that turns freely, and cleans the area. The temperatures drop and no parts are needed. In another typical case, the temperatures stay high even when clean, so the written quote lists a fan and fresh thermal paste as separate lines, and the owner approves them before work. A quote with one lump-sum 'cooling repair' line is hard to compare; ask for it to be split.
Which route should you choose?
- In warranty or covered by a Dell plan: go to Dell.
- Out of coverage and dusty: ask for a cleaning and a temperature recheck.
- Still hot afterwards: ask for a fan or thermal quote in writing.
- Shutdowns, a burning smell or a swollen battery: stop using it and get it inspected.

When to get help
- The fan is loud even at idle.
- The G15 restarts or switches off during games or calls.
- The keyboard deck is too hot to touch.
- A cleaning did not bring temperatures down.
You can book a check for Dell laptop overheating. For a doorstep visit in Jubilee Hills (laptop repair in Jubilee Hills), there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Ask for temperatures before and after the work, not only a promise that the laptop is fixed. A handover test, where the repaired function is shown to you with a short written record, tells you the job is done. Clean vents every few months and keep the laptop on a hard surface.
