Short answer: The Apple Studio Display is priced at over ₹1,60,000 in India, nearly double the US retail price after import duty and GST. It offers genuine advantages — 5K resolution, factory-calibrated P3 colour, built-in Centre Stage webcam, spatial audio, and 96W charging via a single Thunderbolt cable. However, most of these benefits are replicated at ₹35,000–₹55,000 by alternatives that match or exceed the colour accuracy. The main thing you lose is seamless macOS integration and 5K resolution.
What the Studio Display does — and what alternatives match
5K resolution — the genuine differentiator
The Studio Display is 27-inch at 5120 × 2880 pixels (5K), which at 218 ppi (pixels per inch) matches the MacBook Retina display's sharpness. Most alternatives top out at 4K (3840 × 2160) on a 27-inch panel — 163 ppi — which is still sharper than a standard 1080p monitor but noticeably different from the MacBook's own screen when viewed side-by-side. We frequently see MacBook screens brought in for repair that show washed-out or green-shifted colour after the user connected an external monitor. In almost every case, the issue is a wrong macOS colour profile assigned to the display — not a hardware fault. When connecting any external monitor to a MacBook, go to System Settings → Displays → select the monitor → choose the correct colour profile (sRGB, P3, or the monitor's ICC profile).
