Asus VivoBook 15 touchpad lifting: wait for repair or get a second opinion?

LR LRW Engineer Team ~6 min read

Key takeaways

  • A touchpad or base that lifts is often a swollen battery (a battery whose cells have puffed up with gas) pushing from below. Stop charging the laptop and get it checked.
  • The Asus India pages read on 19 October 2026 give no carry-in repair completion time, so ask the service centre for an estimate in writing before you decide to wait.
  • If the VivoBook is in warranty, start with the Asus route. If it is out of warranty and waiting is the worry, a second opinion on scope is reasonable.
  • Do not press, bend, puncture or heat a swollen battery, and do not keep charging it. Switch the laptop off and keep it on a hard, open surface away from bedding.

Picture a tea stall owner in Hyderabad, aged 41, who keeps accounts and orders on an Asus VivoBook 15. The touchpad has started to lift, and the laptop no longer sits flat on the table. A repair has been suggested, but the wait is unclear and the shop cannot stay without the laptop for long. This post explains what a lifting touchpad often points to, what Asus does and does not publish about timing, and how to choose between waiting and a second opinion.

Why is the touchpad lifting?

This post follows a typical scenario, not a record of a real customer. In a slim laptop such as the VivoBook, the battery is a flat pack of lithium cells that often sits close beneath the touchpad. With age, heat and many charge cycles, a cell can puff up with gas. This is called a swollen battery. Because there is little room inside a slim laptop, the pack pushes the touchpad or the base upward. The touchpad may start to click oddly, or the bottom cover may no longer sit flat.

Short answer: treat a lifting touchpad as a battery problem until a technician shows you otherwise. Stop charging, switch the laptop off, and have it checked soon. If it is in warranty, begin with Asus. If it is out of warranty and the wait is the worry, ask for a written estimate and compare it with a second opinion.

What should you do today?

  1. Save your open work quickly, then switch the laptop off. Do not leave it charging to finish a long backup.
  2. Unplug the charger and do not charge it again.
  3. Keep it on a hard, open surface, away from bedding, paper and sunlight.
  4. Do not press the raised part flat, and do not open the laptop yourself.
  5. Note the model, the serial number and the date you first saw the lift.

A swollen battery can leak or catch fire if it is crushed, punctured or kept charging. If you notice a chemical smell, heat or smoke, move away from the laptop and call the emergency number 112. Our guide on swollen battery cost explains the problem in more detail.

What does Asus publish about timing?

The Asus India pages read on 19 October 2026 give no completion time for carry-in repair at its service centres, and details can change, so check the current page. Its own repair cost blog on the Asus India site does not specify turnaround days. Timing is stated only for plans: Premium Care onsite service and the next-business-day packs list next-business-day timing in selected cities. These are plan-specific and are not a feature of every laptop. So a carry-in repair has no published promise, and the sensible step is to ask the centre for an estimate in writing before you leave the laptop.

That is not a criticism. It simply means you should ask, and write down what you are told, including whether the part is on hand and how the service centre will inform you.

What can Laptop Repair World do?

Laptop Repair World has worked since 2007 from one store at MG Road, Secunderabad, with doorstep service across Hyderabad. For a lifting touchpad we can inspect the laptop and tell you in a written quote whether the battery alone is involved or whether the touchpad, cover or board is affected. See our Asus battery replacement page, and the Secunderabad Asus service page for the area.

  • Condition, serial number and accessories are recorded when the laptop is collected.
  • The written quotation lists parts, labour, GST and the visit fee before any work.
  • The part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty.
  • If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved by you before more paid work.
  • Some eligible jobs can finish the same day, if the part is on hand and a technician is free. This is not promised for every job.
  • The repair has a 30-day warranty, subject to terms, and the repaired function is shown at handover.

Heat, a shop counter and a laptop that cannot stop working

A laptop kept on a warm counter, close to a stove or in a hot shop is under steady heat, and heat is hard on lithium batteries. If you depend on the laptop for orders, plan around the repair rather than around the laptop. Copy your accounts and contact lists to a pen drive or cloud space today. Use a phone for orders while the laptop is out. Do not keep running the laptop on its charger to finish the day, because that is the situation in which a swollen battery is especially hazardous.

When is the Asus route the better choice?

Go to Asus first if the VivoBook is within warranty, if you bought a protection plan, or if Asus names a free programme for your model. Check the Asus India support page for the current terms. If the laptop is out of warranty and waiting is the real concern, ask the centre for its written estimate and compare it with a second opinion on scope. A page on Asus service centre versus independent repair sets out the differences, and our VivoBook repair or replace guide helps if the laptop is old. You can also see the Asus repair hub.

When to get help

  • The touchpad, base or keyboard area is raised or does not sit flat.
  • The touchpad clicks oddly or stops responding.
  • The battery drains quickly or the laptop gets hot while charging.
  • The bottom cover has a gap along the edge.

For the fault itself, see our Asus battery page. No Fix No Fee means no repair charge if the fault is not fixed. For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us.

A note from the LRW Engineer Team

If you have to carry the laptop, do not put it inside a packed bag or press it under other things. Carry it flat in a padded sleeve with nothing on top, tell the repairer about the lift when you hand it over, and ask them to record its condition.
