Why does AMD Adrenalin keep crashing?
Short answer: AMD Adrenalin — the software suite that manages AMD Radeon graphics drivers, game optimization, and performance tuning — crashes most often when driver files from a previous installation were not cleanly removed before an update, when a Windows feature update changed a system DLL that Adrenalin depends on, or when the GPU is overheating and Windows's TDR mechanism (Timeout Detection and Recovery — the system that detects when a GPU stops responding) keeps triggering a driver reset. The fix is a DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) clean removal in Safe Mode followed by a fresh driver install.
How to fix AMD Adrenalin driver crashes
Step 1: Check GPU temperature first
Before any software work, rule out overheating. Download AMD's own Radeon Software overlay or a free tool like HWiNFO to check GPU temperature during the crash. If the GPU is reaching above 90°C under normal load, the crash is thermal rather than driver-related — and no driver reinstall will hold until the cooling is fixed. On laptops, this almost always means the cooling vents are blocked by dust. Overheating repair addresses the root cause. Step 2: Clean remove AMD drivers with DDU in Safe Mode
