Your Acer Aspire has started to sound like a small hairdryer, and the keyboard is too warm to rest your wrists on. You wonder whether a cleaning will be enough or whether something bigger has gone wrong. This post explains what can sit behind these two signs in plain words, what a clean can and cannot fix, how to compare a brand route with an independent repair, and which signs mean you should stop using the laptop and have it checked.
Is it only dust, or is something wrong?
Short answer: start with a cleaning if the laptop is old, dusty and the fan sounds like air rushing. Ask for a repair quote if the fan rattles, if the laptop shuts down on its own, or if heat comes back soon after cleaning. If the Aspire may still be under warranty, check Acer's support page before anyone opens it.
Why does the fan get loud and the keyboard hot?
Inside the laptop, a small fan pushes air over a metal heat pipe that carries heat away from the processor (the main chip). Dust and lint build up on the fan blades and on the thin metal fins, and the air can no longer pass. The processor then runs hotter, the fan spins faster to compensate, and the heat spreads into the keyboard deck.
The same signs can come from other causes:
- A worn fan. A fan with tired bearings (the small parts it spins on) can rattle, buzz or grind even when the air path is clear.
- Dried thermal paste. This is the thin paste between the processor and the heat pipe. When it dries out, heat passes across less well.
- A battery problem. An ageing battery can run warm or swell. A swollen battery can push the keyboard or touchpad upward and must not be charged or pressed.
What does the Acer route look like?
If the laptop is within its warranty, the brand's own route comes first, because a covered repair is handled under that cover. Check Acer's current support page and your invoice for the warranty period and for how a claim is raised. For work outside warranty, check Acer's current support page or ask Acer how a paid job is arranged and what it covers. You can also read our Acer service centre and independent repair comparison before you decide.
What can an independent repair assess?
Laptop Repair World has repaired laptops since 2007 from one store at MG Road, Secunderabad. For an overheating Aspire, we can inspect the accessible area, check temperatures under load, listen to the fan and look at the battery. Our Acer fan repair service covers fan problems. If the fan needs to be replaced, or the thermal paste needs renewing, we list the parts, labour and GST in a written quotation before any work. If testing finds another fault, we send a revised quotation and wait for your approval before any further paid work.
Two points are worth knowing. Internal cleaning and thermal service are separate jobs, so ask for each to be named on the quote. And each part is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty stated, so you can compare it with any other quote.
How should you compare the two routes?
What is a typical case like?
For example, take an Aspire that is four years old and has never been opened. The fan is loud when two browser tabs and a video call are running, but there is no rattle. A typical first step is cleaning the fan and vents, then a temperature check. If the temperature settles and the noise drops, the dust was the cause. If the fan still grinds, or the heat returns within a few weeks, the fan or the thermal paste is the next suspect, and a written quote for that work makes sense. This is an illustration, not a record of a real job.
How do heat and dust in India change the picture?
Indian homes and offices are warm for much of the year, and fine dust gets in through windows and ceiling fans. A laptop used on a bed, a sofa or a soft cushion draws in lint and blocks its own vents. Power cuts also cut work short, so save your files often. Using the laptop on a pillow or blanket is one of the quickest ways to raise its temperature.
Our guide on backing up before repair shows how to protect your files, since a hot laptop can switch off suddenly.
When is the brand route the better choice?
- The laptop is within its warranty period and Acer's terms cover the fault. Check Acer's current support page.
- You hold a plan from Acer that covers service, and it is still valid.
An independent repair makes sense when the warranty has ended, when you want an inspection at your door in Hyderabad (see our laptop repair in Hyderabad page), or when you are in another city and would like to send the laptop by courier. We accept laptops by courier from anywhere in India.
When to get help
- The fan rattles, grinds or screams, even at idle.
- The laptop switches itself off while it is hot.
- The heat returns within days of a cleaning.
- The base, keyboard or touchpad looks raised or uneven. Stop charging it at once.
Our fan and cooling service page explains the work. For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Do not use compressed air or a vacuum cleaner on a running laptop, and never blow into the fan with strong force, because a fan can spin too fast and be damaged. Switch it off, unplug it, and let a technician open it. Note when the heat started; it helps any engineer.
