Several keys on your Acer Aspire 5 have stopped responding, or the whole keyboard has gone quiet. You can take it to an authorised service provider or ask an independent repairer. Which is right for you? This guide sets out what Acer's own terms say, what an independent repair like Laptop Repair World (LRW) can offer in writing, how to compare the two on coverage, turnaround, part type, cost and aftercare, and when the brand route clearly comes first.
Which route should you take for a keyboard fault?
A keyboard that skips keys or stops working makes every task slow. You need to know whether to go to an authorised service provider or to an independent repairer.
Short answer: if the warranty is active, use the Acer route first. If it is not, compare two written quotes. Check coverage, turnaround, part type, total cost and aftercare, and choose the one that is clearest. Confirm Acer's terms on its current support page.
What do Acer's terms say?
Acer India's warranty terms for the Aspire notebook series are an undated document. They say that any service, repair or replacement outside the scope of Acer India's coverage is subject to the rates and terms of the authorised service provider doing the work.
In plain words, once your warranty does not cover the fault, the price and conditions are set by the provider carrying out the work. So ask that provider directly for the rates, the parts they would use and the time they expect to need. This guide does not describe an Acer price list or request method for out-of-warranty repair, so check Acer's current support page for the latest position.
What can an independent repair check?
LRW can look at the fault and find the cause. A keyboard problem may be a dirty or sticky key, a loose ribbon cable (the thin flat strip that connects the keyboard to the board), a failed keyboard, or a spill. The cause decides the fix.
The written quotation lists parts, labour, GST and the visit fee before any work. The keyboard is named as original, compatible or refurbished, with its own warranty stated on the quotation. When the laptop is collected, its condition, serial number and accessories are recorded. If testing finds another fault, a revised quotation is approved by you before any further paid work.
Complimentary cleaning of the keyboard area comes with an eligible keyboard job. The repair carries a 30-day warranty, subject to terms, and No Fix No Fee covers the repair charge. At handover, the repaired keys are shown to you with a short written record. Same-day completion is possible for eligible jobs when the part is on hand and a technician is free.
How do you compare the two routes?
Dust, humidity and spills at an Indian desk
Keys can stick from dust, chai or a spill, and monsoon humidity makes keyboards more prone to corrosion and sticky membranes. Eating at the desk adds crumbs. If liquid has gone in, switch off, unplug and do not keep typing; liquid damage is separate work and can spread to the board. Tell the technician at the start, because it changes the quote.
A typical case
This is an illustration of a typical scenario, not a record of a real customer. An Aspire 5 has three keys that do not respond. The technician checks the keys and the cable, finds the keyboard unit worn, and writes a quote naming the keyboard, the part type, labour, GST and the part warranty. The owner compares it with the authorised provider's figures and picks on clarity and coverage, not only the lowest number. In another typical case, the problem is a loose cable, and the fix is smaller. A quote that does not say which part is proposed is not ready to approve.
When does each route make sense?
- Warranty active: the Acer route comes first.
- Out of coverage: collect two written quotes with the same lines.
- Only a few keys fail: ask whether a cable or cleaning fix is possible.
- Liquid involved: ask for the liquid treatment to be quoted as separate work.

When to get help
- Keys have stopped responding or type the wrong letters.
- The whole keyboard is dead but an external one works.
- A spill reached the keyboard.
- You have two quotes and cannot tell which is clearer.
You can book a check for an Acer laptop keyboard fault. For a doorstep visit, there is a ₹149 doorstep visit fee, waived when you approve laptop repair with us. No Fix No Fee covers the repair charge, and the visit fee is waived only when you approve the repair. Laptops can also come by courier from anywhere in India.
A note from the LRW Engineer Team
Test the keyboard with an external USB keyboard before any repair. If the external one works, the problem is the built-in keyboard or its cable. If both fail, the fault may be elsewhere. Back up your files before handing the laptop over, and keep the quote you are given.
