Every Asus ROG fault — thermal throttle, OLED crack, RGB keyboard failure, GPU chip-level, Zephyrus Duo secondary display. ROG Strix liquid metal repaste done to Asus spec with PEEK insulation. Zephyrus and Flow serviced with OEM-matched thermal grease. 30-day warranty on every repair, ₹149 doorstep for Hyderabad — rest of India ships to our Secunderabad workshop.
Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers) is the flagship gaming line — premium chassis, high-refresh displays, and dedicated Nvidia RTX GPUs across three main families. We service every current and previous generation ROG variant:
Gaming laptops run hot, hard, and long. These are the faults we see most often across Strix, Zephyrus, and Flow — with what actually causes them.
Strix G15/G16 apply Conductonaut liquid metal on the CPU die at the factory. After 18–24 months of heavy gaming, the liquid metal migrates or dries at the edges, cutting thermal contact. Result: GPU and CPU throttle to 60–80% performance under sustained load. Fix: liquid metal re-application with PEEK insulation, heatsink re-seat.
ROG’s anti-dust tunnels (ADT) push most debris out, but fine particulate still coats the heatsink fins and fan blades. A blocked fin stack can raise GPU temps by 10–15°C, triggering fan speeds that sound like a jet. Compressed-air flush + paste re-application restores acoustics and temperatures simultaneously.
Strix Scar and Strix G15/G16/G17 use per-key ARGB backlighting wired through a secondary ribbon cable. Repeated lid flex stresses this cable; individual keys stop lighting or stop registering. On the Scar series, the optical-mechanical switches can also lose actuation on heavy-use keys (WASD cluster).
ROG Strix uses a proprietary rectangular barrel port paired with a 240W or 330W GaN charger. The port’s barrel size puts more torque on the PCB solder joint than USB-C. Intermittent charging, the laptop only charging when held at an angle, or no charging at all typically mean cracked solder pads — not a dead charger.
High-refresh IPS panels in the Strix G15/G16/G17 use a dual-eDP connector layout. Backlight inverter failure shows as a black screen with visible image under torch light. A fully cracked panel from physical impact shows no image at all. Both are covered; we carry 1080p 240Hz and 1440p 165Hz replacement panels for the common Strix chassis.
Unlike the Strix, Zephyrus G14 uses conventional (non-liquid-metal) thermal compound on both CPU and GPU. ROG Intelligent Cooling’s shared heatpipe layout means both chips throttle together when paste degrades. Repaste with high-conductivity compound (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut tier) and contact pressure verification typically drops temps 8–12°C.
When a previous technician cleans the Strix CPU die with isopropyl alcohol and applies standard paste instead of liquid metal, heat output rises significantly and the CPU may permanently throttle. Restoring to liquid metal spec (with correct PEEK insulation) returns full performance. Bring your ROG to us for assessment if a prior repair left it running hotter than before.
The ROG Flow X13 connects to the XG Mobile eGPU via a proprietary USB4 / PCIe connector. High insertion frequency wears the connector’s retention clips, causing intermittent eGPU detection. Connector replacement requires micro-soldering; the standard USB-C ports remain functional even when the proprietary connector fails.
The Zephyrus Duo SE’s secondary 14″ IPS panel (ScreenPad Plus) slides up on opening. Its ribbon cable flexes at every open/close cycle. When the secondary display shows horizontal lines, goes black, or is not detected at all, the ribbon or the secondary panel controller board is the usual cause — not the main GPU.

Thermal interface material (TIM) sits between the CPU die and the copper heatsink. Standard paste is a grey paste that conducts heat at roughly 8–12 W/m·K. Liquid metal — specifically Conductonaut (gallium alloy) — conducts at 73 W/m·K. That’s approximately 6× better.
Asus applies Conductonaut directly to the bare CPU die on the ROG Strix G15, G16, G17, and Strix Scar models. The problem: gallium alloy reacts with aluminium and corrodes it on contact. The heatsink has a nickel-plated copper contact surface, but the surrounding bare CPU capacitors and PCB traces can be damaged if the liquid metal migrates. That’s why Asus uses PEEK (polyether ether ketone — a high-temperature plastic) insulation strips around the die perimeter. Every repaste must re-lay fresh PEEK tape in exactly the right geometry before the gallium is applied. Skip the PEEK and you risk a short.
Standard thermal compound (Arctic MX-4, Kryonaut) is not equivalent and should not be used as a substitute on Strix CPUs. The lower conductivity defeats the purpose of the Strix thermal design, and if the original PEEK tape is removed without replacement, there is no protection for the surrounding circuitry.
We stock Conductonaut, the correct PEEK tape strip geometry for each Strix chassis variant, and measure post-repaste temperatures under a 30-minute stress test before handing the machine back.
ROG is the right choice if you need maximum frame rates and premium display quality. TUF is better if durability and lower running cost matter more. Either way, we service both — TUF Gaming repair page here.
