The moment liquid enters your Asus laptop, two destructive processes begin simultaneously. The first is electrochemical corrosion: when conductive ions from the liquid (salt, sugar, minerals) bridge adjacent copper traces on the motherboard while voltage is present, electrolytic action starts consuming the copper itself. Asus laptops have unique structural factors that affect how liquid damage plays out. The most Asus-specific risk is the ErgoLift hinge design: when the lid is open, the hinge mechanism raises the rear of the chassis by 5–6 degrees, creating a gap between the chassis bottom and your desk. Liquid that splashes on the desk surface or rolls off the keyboard can flow under the chassis through this gap and pool along the bottom of the motherboard tray — an area that is particularly dense with SMD components and the PCH (Platform Controller Hub). The ROG Strix and ROG Zephyrus gaming lines add vapor-chamber cooling complexity.
