The Triton 14/16 chassis is thinner than the Helios, so the GPU thermal headroom is tighter. After 12–18 months of gaming, factory liquid metal migrates off-centre and RTX 4070/4080 GPUs start throttling from 80W sustained down to 50–60W. Fix: liquid-metal re-application with PEEK tape on die edges.
The high-refresh IPS panels on Helios 16/18 occasionally develop backlight inverter failure or EDP ribbon wear at the hinge flex point. Symptom: screen works on external monitor but shows backlight flicker or total darkness on built-in panel.
Helios and Triton use a per-key RGB membrane or per-key mechanical keyboard. Individual RGB zones stop lighting, certain rows ghost, or the PredatorSense software loses keyboard detection. Repair ranges from firmware flash to full keyboard assembly swap.

Conductonaut (by Thermal Grizzly) is a gallium-indium alloy that conducts heat 70× better than standard thermal paste. Acer applies it to the CPU die in all Triton 14, 16, and 17 models from the factory. It is what allows the Triton to fit an RTX 4080 into a 16mm chassis.
Liquid metal is electrically conductive. A single drop onto the surrounding SMD components causes a short circuit and board damage. Standard technicians unfamiliar with this process either skip re-application (applying paste instead, which runs hotter) or cause board damage.
We apply PEEK (polyether ether ketone) insulating tape around the CPU die perimeter before re-application — the same precaution Acer uses on the production line. Fresh Conductonaut at Acer-specified volume, then re-benchmark under load to confirm temperatures before reassembly.
Under heavy gaming use, liquid metal migration causes thermal degradation after 12–24 months. Signs: sustained CPU temperatures above 95°C, GPU throttling below 80W, fan running at max even in Windows desktop. A repaste restores factory performance.
