Toshiba Satellite chargers from the 2010–2020 era use a 5.5 mm × 2.5 mm DC barrel connector at 19V (65W or 90W depending on the CPU TDP). After years of coiling, tugging, and heat cycling, the strain relief at the laptop end develops internal wire fractures — the cable appears intact externally but delivers intermittent current. Aftermarket Satellite chargers vary widely in quality: low-grade units omit the overvoltage protection circuitry that Toshiba’s original adapter included, and a voltage spike from a poor charger can damage the charging circuit on the motherboard. Toshiba branded the adapter output as 19V/3.42A (65W) or 19V/4.74A (90W) — the correct wattage must match the CPU platform.
