UHE lamps in the ELPLP58 degrade gradually. Because these are legacy models still in heavy classroom use, the lamp warning often appears after the projector has been running daily for several years.
Picture looks pale even at maximum brightness, text on the board is hard to read from the back of the room. The UHE arc has weakened. Replacement is the only effective fix; no settings adjustment can compensate for arc degradation.
Projector turns off in the middle of a lecture, then refuses to restart for five to ten minutes. The lamp has hit the thermal cut-off. Classroom disruption is avoidable: replace before the lamp reaches this stage.
Epson's lamp indicator activates at 4,000 hours in Normal mode (or 5,000 in Eco). Brightness has already dropped below 70 percent of original output. In a classroom, that means text at the back of the room is already difficult to read.
