My BenQ projector makes a clicking/ticking sound. What is it?+

A clicking or ticking sound — especially at startup — is almost always the DLP colour wheel. The wheel spins at high speed and when the motor bearing wears or the wheel falls out of balance, it ticks, causes rainbow artefacts on screen, or makes the projector beep and refuse to start. Does third-party BenQ repair void the warranty?+
