Sony VAIO Pro (SVP-series, 13.3”–11.6”, 2013–2014) — Sony’s answer to the MacBook Air — used internal batteries integrated into the carbon fibre chassis base. At 10–12 years old, SVP batteries are almost universally degraded below useful capacity. Cell swelling on SVP batteries is a serious concern: the carbon fibre base cannot flex the way ABS plastic can, so a swollen cell either bows the base panel visibly or, in cases of significant swelling, creates pressure on the motherboard. VAIO Pro batteries also ran a proprietary EEPROM cell management chip — non-matched replacements are rejected by the firmware with a “battery not recognised” error.
We inspect the base panel for bow before disassembly — a bowed base is a reliable indicator of cell swelling. SVP chassis disassembly requires care around the carbon fibre shell (no metal pry tools — carbon fibre chips under metal stress). Replacement cells are sourced to include the required EEPROM management IC.
