Screen ribbon cable flex fracture at the hinge fold is particularly frequent on the Portege because the thin chassis leaves minimal cable slack through the hinge path — repeated opening cycles cause the flex to work-harden and crack. Symptoms: flickering display that stabilises when the lid is held at a specific angle, or a fine vertical stripe pattern that tracks with hinge movement. Full LCD failure (cracked panel) also occurs, though less commonly on the slim-form Portege than on the wider Satellite.
