As I have been aggravated to no end by the noisy fan in the Inspiron 1525, out of desperation I went out and bought an Antec Notebook Cooler. Placing the laptop squarely on top of the cooler had little effect. However, if I shifted the notebook the right, so that the fans of the cooler were blowing under the left side of the notebook (this is where I guestimated a lot of the important compontents were located), the machine did run cooler. Even on idle, my cpu typically shoots up the 55 degrees and then the internal fans kick in, but with the cooler in the above position the Inspiron was steady at 48 degrees (only for idle, mind you). Of course, now you have to listen to the Antec fans (on low setting) which are definitely not silent, but they are quieter than the Inspiron fans. Or maybe they just seem quieter because it’s a constant background noise.
